We spent one night in a private room with my partner.The attention of the two boys was very kind and attentive.The common facilities are very good, the living room has tables and chairs, you have the possibility to heat your food and they will provide you with dishes if you need them.The atmosphere is very familiar and pleasant.The room is simple and comfortable.Recommended to 100%

Very welcoming.

We were expecting an essential structure in perfect Japanese style, very simple but welcoming. Unfortunately we were disappointed and do not recommend this guesthouse to other travelers. The guy who hosted us spoke a good English, was professional and efficient although not particularly kind, but assigned us a room in the sidewalk without windows, no air conditioning, only with a ventilator. To shower we had to go to the main structure (passing the street) through the common area. The bathroom was small and uncleaned. On the guesthouse website it was written that you could have dinner and make breakfast but it wasn't.

Good communication, poor comfort

We stayed in the upstairs family apartment. Such a beautiful place to spend a night, clean and well kept. The tatami area with futon beds was a lovely cultural experience. The apartment also has a modern kitchenette and bathroom. The apartment is located on the “main”road but this is a small 2 lane street. We drove ourselves so found the idea of a main road confusing (as they were narrow mountain passes). Follow the YouTube instructions to the paring area for the apartment as there’s no parking on the street. Found having a rental car ideal in this area. Google maps led us right to the door so our pocket wifi from the airport was invaluable. Definitely recommended!

Beautiful Japanese/Western Accomodation 

Guesthouse Toi was a great spot for a solo traveler for one night in Hakone. It was an easy bus ride from Hakone-Yamamote just pay attention so you can request the correct stop. The walk to the old fashioned train was easy with a cute little cafe nearby with free footbath while you eat. From there, a quick launch point to all major Hakone sights. The guesthouse was clean and homey inside. Thanks to helpful staff including Mayu for her great suggestions! It was cold while I was there but the bed was comfortable and the heater worked great. One thing to note, if you opt for a private room, you may be located out of the main building. Not so big of a deal, but you have to walk outside to the next building for toilet and shower. Small onsen included was excellent!  Overall, a lovely stay for a solo budget traveler.

Great budget spot

A small guesthouse with an intimate character. The scent of wood, the quiet surroundings and the intimate atmosphere make it a charming place. The spaces are rather small (as almost everywhere in Japan) but we already knew it. There is the possibility of having dinner and breakfast with food prepared at the time and in front of you. The small onsen was a pleasant diversion (the water is very hot at about 70°C). We stayed for one night as a point of support to go to Lake Ashi.

Charming and intimate guesthouse

We spent one night here and we didn't get along very well, the cleanliness was poor, dust and spiders were in the room too, so-called onsen I didn't have the courage to do it, because it was in a shallow, dark room... I wouldn't go back there.

We didn't like it.

We stayed here back in October 2016 as part of our tour around Japan. We absolutely loved it here. We stayed in the private room which although very basic was clean and comfortable. The train going past can be a little disrupting but we found ourselves quickly getting used to it. 
The staff here are great and very friendly. We stayed up at the bar with them one night and drank whiskey with their monk friend!! Was lots of fun. 
My husband used the onsen there which he enjoyed and the staff cooked us fresh breakfast every morning which was lovely. 

Loved it

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights. 

It was great for what we needed, a good base for all the activities we did while in Hakone (rope way, hiking up mountains & onsens)

Just a note to budget travellers there is no fridge or kitchen area - we had been doing our own breakfasts/ some meals as we went but there isn't anywhere to store things here- wasn't a problem but worth noting! 

Apart from that it was clean & the hosts are lovely. Pretty quiet little inn.

We stayed in the mixed dorm room. 


Good value for money- beautiful surrounds 

We stayed for two nights in a private room. It had a heater and lots of covers so we were warm enough but the mattress was very thin so it was not the most comfortable sleep. Breakfast was simple and cheap.  The couple running the guesthouse are very friendly and helpful.  The shared shower room is basically a one person onsen which was really hot! It is a 10-15 minute uphill walk from the bus stop  (don't get off at the first miyanoshita stop - this is for the train station.  Stay on a couple more minutes to the next stop- miyanoshita onsen).

Very friendly and conformable, relative value for money

We stayed two nights, time to visit the Hakone area and prepare our ascent of Mount Fuji (precious help received to reserve a place in a shelter).
