central location to restaurants and places of interest. it was quiet. nice neighbourhood, surrounded by onsens, nearby supermarket.  Bibo is very quick to respond and helpful with explaining 'things to do' .. thank you Bibo !

nice location

It's more like a small appartment, no luxury but all you need! 
You have a spacious room with foutons and a toilet, no bathroom because there's an onsen 3 min away!
You also have a spacious kitchen with a microwave oven, a coffee machine, a sink and a fridge.
The GH is on walking distance of the famous "Hells" and the onsen.
The friendly owner picks you up at the station and takes you back when you leave, what a service!
I can warmly recommend this place!

Quiet and comfortable!

Functional studio, tatami and futons, well heated, for a very reasonable price. The owner who came to pick us up at the train station (which is very nice) gave us the necessary information. The access staircase on the first floor is not easy with suitcases. Well located with a local bathroom 150 meters away but beware the water is very very hot! Nearby possibility of private onsen (family bath) for a reasonable price. Rather reluctant to visit the underworld, we visited the Kamado jigoku, finally interesting...

Downtown Kanawa

A Japanese-style studio, futon, tatami, kitchenette, toilet. Ideally located. Next to several onsens (from 150 yen to 650 yen). Less than 6 minutes' walk from 5 hells. One of the hosts, from the Czech Republic - speaking English, welcomes in a sincere and efficient manner (with the right plans).

Nice surprise (even if a typhoon passed during the stay)

We stayed in Beppu for two nights on our tour in Japan. 

Happy Neko was great place to stay. We had two Japanese studios for us and our kids which were located in an adjacent building. Parking is no issue and available right in front of the building. 

Bibo and family were a very nice host with very fast email communication and he explained us all the things in the area. 

The studios are very spacious and real Japanese style with floor mats and futons to sleep on. The furniture and utilities are very basic but all you need (plates, cups, silverware, sink, dish soap, fridge) There is a toilet, but no shower / bath in the room - equipped as described in the booking page. You can go in one of the various Onsen to clean up. 

We were in the Hyotan onsen which is only a few min walking distance. It is a very nice onsen that offers private and public onsens. For about 20USD you can rent a very nice private onsen (they have 14 private onsens, indoor and outdoor versions) for 1h. They are up to 3 people, but it was no issue to enter with a family of 4. 

There is a supermarket in walking distance and also plenty of restaurants in the area along the main street. 

The upper part of the Hells of Beppu are in walking distance (less than 1km from Happy Neko) through some nice walking/small streets. For the lower part you will need some kind of transportation or a good condition. They are about 3km from Happy Neko. 

A good tip from Bibo was also to make an evening walk (once the sun was down) through the city area (in the area around Happy Neko) as you can see all the steam outlets through the city and it is a very interesting experience. 

Very good place to stay in Beppu

Bibo picked us up from the train station (unfortunately he couldn't give us a lift back on the last day but we managed to get a cab from the street). The location was good with restaurants, supermarkets and onsens all within short walking distances.

The bus ride to and return from train station is long though, about 30 to 40 min depending which bus you take.

Great location and tatami experience

Three nights only but what a joy to wake up with the sun passing through the sliding partitions! Beautiful atmosphere, serene and peaceful.

It's perfect.

So much happy to stayed there, even no shower but we can walked to onsen nearby, and big supermarket this place very convenience.
Room very big and you will have own washer and   small kitchen 
I gonna go back

Simple but enough apartment. clean. with nevera, futón, pica etc... the only drawback though to us our funny appearance is that there is no ghost and we have to go to a few public bathrooms in the village. but the experience enchanted us. very cheap accommodation. the guy who rents it is European speaks perfectly English and always localizable.

Bibo, the owner of the house, came to pick us up at the station and took us the next day very kindly. his house is magnificent and keeps all the details of a traditional Japanese house, plus it is in an excellent place to visit the area of los onsen as well as a typical neighborhood of Beppu.
