Cascina Meriame

My wife and I spent two weeks of our May-June vacation in Piedmont, (ten nights at Cascina Meriame, right in the heart of the Barolo wine region), exploring the local history, wine, cheese making, slow food and hazelnut industry attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cascina Meriame, where we stayed in the Lavanda apartment. The owner, Luisiella, was a lovely host who baked her amazing own cake every morning for the included breakfast. The entire staff was extremely kind and friendly. The view from the Cascina was breathtaking. The pool was never crowded during our stay. I highly recommend the apartament, it has a large walk-in closet from the bedroom, nice kitchen (fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, washer), dining room, a washer (no need for dryer given the private terrace). Luisiella’s husband, Paolo Manzone, is a ‘sheriff’ for the family’s vineyards surrounding the house and you can frequently see him riding one of their tractors taking care of it. We purchased and truly enjoyed a few of their wines after a wine tasting experience by their staff (in fact the only suggestion I’d make would be for them to include a wine making/cellar and a Paolo guided wine tasting/explanation tour at least for tourists who, like us, are spending more than 5 days staying there - we ended up ordering our 72 bottles of US shipped bottles of various Piedmont wines from other smaller Barolo producers largely because of our personal connection established with the producer during our other wine tasting tours and not necessarily because of quality). Lovely experience and highly recommended.
