Fantastic
66 reviewsWe stayed there for two reasons, 1st to avoid a huge motorway hold up, and second to break our journey south. My wife had checked the Italian reviews on the San Carlo and their previous customers were all very happy with all aspects of food and comfort. We parked in their small car park at the rear, (8 spaces) and walked the few steps to the reception to be greeted in a most friendly matter. Our room was large, and included, air-con if required, wifi, and flat screen TV. The room and bathroom were spotless, and as we were making ourselves comfortable, a knock on the door heralded Fabio, the boss, with a tray of welcome drinks and nibbles. (that's a first for us!) A couple of hundred yards, down the road opposite the hotel, is a beautiful park, where we walked before dinner. In the dining room there were a few residents who had pre-booked their meals as well as some business people and ourselves. There is no menu, just the daily choices which included three starters, three main courses and a sweet selection. Unlike any other hotel we had stayed in in Italy, there was a table of self service salads as well as hot and cold vegetables to compliment the main course. Fabio also produced for us a bottle of his selection of a local red wine, (very good) or alternatively guests could choose a carafes of house wine. After this simple but excellent dinner we headed for bed and spent a most comfortable night. In the morning, a substantial buffet breakfast was available in the bar area, where local people popped in for a coffee to add to the atmosphere. Breakfast included cereals, yogurt, fruit, ham & cheese, breads, pastas, and cake. Having just spent 17 nights in a variety of hotels, across Europe this establishment is amazing. It may be originally a 1950s, building which has been well maintained, and with the level of comfort, food quality and cleanliness, I am frankly amazed it only warrants two star.
