We stayed at the Hotel Natisone two years again September, and we can't stop talking about it. We don't speak Italian (nor Friulano for that matter) and the staff didn't speak much English. However, Friulian hospitality overcame the language barrier. The food was exceptional. We Chicagoans pride themselves on having some of the best Italian food in the US. My first experience at the hotel was Spaghetti Carbonara for lunch. It won me over. Proof of its culinary superiority came at night when the restaurant was full to the doors with local folks eating pizza. Please note: this was Italian pizza and not the made-in-USA types we were used to at home. The alpine views, the sounds of the Natisone river, and the rich local medieval architecture make its location perfect. Even though it's not exceptionally easy to get to, it's not to be missed.
