My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed at the Hotel Grande Italia for five nights in June of this year. It is a lovely place with large, comfortable rooms and a wonderfully helpful staff. My other daughter lives in Padua in the Veneto region of Italy, where we stayed for two weeks, visiting Venice and the surrounding areas. Therefore, our five nights in Marina di Pietrasanta, was a great antidote to the big city. It is beautifully located, a few miles from the more touristy beaches of Viareggio, yet it has the cozy shops and lovely bistros available in Viareggio. My favorite part of each day was having a great breakfast of fresh, sweet tomatos and cucumbers with hams and cheeses and a fresh fruit salad accompanied by the best coffee in town and the freshest pastries, often made by the owner, Barbara. Breakfast was set in a beautiful garden and my granddaughter was captivated by the pet turtle that could be seen roaming around in the flower beds.The woman serving breakfast was charming and chatty and I enjoyed her company the leisurly time I spent each morning savoring my meal. The hotel is run by Barbara and Claudio, their grandsons, and a friendly staff. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes peace, friendliness and an excellent location. Plus it is a great value. I intend to stay there the next time I go to Italy.
