Villa Elisa is an old historical villa positioned in the small Italian town of Meta with very few tourists, which made it more appealing to us. The room we had was clean and spacious, with a balcony overlooking the garden. Breakfast was very good and varied, with fresh fruits, cooked eggs, croissants, etc. Giulia, the owner, was very hospitable and went out of her way to help us during our stay. When we first arrived late in the evening, she dropped us off by car at a nearby restaurant in the town centre; which is about a 15 minute walk away from Villa Elisa. There are two very good pizzerias in the town centre; Mazz & Panell and Annare. Also an outstanding pasticceria / coffee bar with an amazing selection of cakes and pastries. There is a reasonable sized supermarket and cash machine, and all of this is within a stone throw of each other. We arrived in Meta using the Naples - Sorrento Circumvesuvium train. This journey cost approximately €7 (in 2018) for two adults and our 6-year old son travelled for free. You need to check the train time though as it does not run late into the night. Travelling to Pompeii, Herculanium, Vesuvius and Sorrento is cheap and reasonably quick providing you check the train times beforehand. From Sorrento we took day trips by ferry to Capri and hydrofoil to the island of Ishia. Also the Sita buses run from Sorrento train station and using these you can reach beaches on the Sorrento penisular and Amalfi coast. We had a very enjoyable stay at Villa Elisa and felt our holiday overall was very good value.
