Torre Polidori

This B&B is a fine place to stay hidden inside a place of mystery. You enter a massive door into a courtyard at the base of the medieval tower, then you work your way up the stairs and into one odd space after another until you reach the entrance to the B&B. Then there are more stairs to a spacious and well-appointed kitchen, beyond which are the rooms. We got the big room for three people - it had plenty of space and electrical power. The shower was good and the beds were comfortable. We had a view over the medieval street below. Parking is available, but it's a project. With your room, you get a space in the municipal lot below the city. It's a 10-minute walk, so you don't want to schlep your bags. The Duomo area is ZTL (no cars), so you have to drive up the labyrinthine back way. Work it out on Google Maps first and don't count on your GPS system to know about the ZTL (and the $100 tickets). We drove up to the Duomo and were escorted around the other way by the Carabiniere (who were friendly and polite). Once you're up there, you'll need Mattea to come with you to park the car and show you how to get back to the B&B - take nothing for granted. When you see Orvieto, you'll understand why such an arrangement is sensible, but it can be a shock if you don't expect it! With all that said, you're right in the middle of everything so you can shop 'til you drop, rest up and go at it again.
