Albergo Gargnano

Albergo Gargnano is on the corner of Gargnano harbour. If you sit at one of the outside tables, you can see all the boating activity on the lake, including the ferries, and all the residents purposefully going about their business on the Via Roma. DH Lawrence sat in that exact spot a hundred years ago, but he didn't have the benefit of an Aperol Spritz to keep him cool. The staff at the Albergo are friendly. They speak a little German and almost no English, which is fine, because it gives English-speakers the opportunity to try out their Italian. The food is simple, but very well prepared. During the day, there are specials for cake and coffee, and the cake is delicious! Most of the times we visited were for a drink, but on one occasion, we decided to have an evening meal. It was delicious. Allesandro (who I think is the owner) prepared a seafood risotto, followed by zabaglione. Both cooked to order, and accompanied by a bottle of Garda white wine (I can't remember the type). While we ate, the yacht Siora Veronica hosted an event about 20 feet away. The whole evening was lovely. Allesandro is to be commended for his food and his staff - they made the evening special for us.
