Back in the beautiful Cilento, we had a great time at one of Olimpia's wonderfully kept holiday appartments, this time not in the Palazzo itself, but in an ancient fisherman's house in the heart of Acciaroli, the large terrace overlooking the harbour. Its' literally next door to the hotel La Scogliera where Hemingway used to stay. There's of course the parking lot and a Pizzeria between the building and the sea (both constructed after Hemingway's time :)) – so it's a relief that the bedroom is situated in the back looking over a traffic-calmed street – although later at night, the pleasant noises of the village theatre disappear and it's only the waves one keeps hearing until morning. On the other hand, there's no better place to observe the spectacle of local life and to decide whether/where you'd like to participate… or just enjoy the sight! Bakery, stores, bars, restaurants are all at a few steps' distance, the beach nearby… We were promised to find bikes next time, and keep our fingers crossed that the Palazzo della Cortiglia's private beach near Acciaroli will soon be more than the owners' latest ambitious project!
