A wonderful place to stay. The numerous positive reviews capture it all - wonderful hosts, beautiful and tranquil setting, nice experience being able to share lodging with an authentic Italian farm family. More like staying with old friends as opposed to a guest house.

One caveat for the mobility challenged.... There are 15 or 20 steps to be climbed to reach the house. But for 99% of people that should be no problem.

I initially stayed at Agriturismo Nico a couple of nights, and decided to extend my stay as I loved it so much. The accommodation is in such a beautiful location, surrounded by hills and forest. Elena and Federico are wonderful, warm, open people and fantastic hosts. I was really made to feel extremely welcomed, and since I was travelling alone, I was invited to eat meals with their family, giving me an insight their way of life. I have a particular interest in biodynamic farming, it being one of the principal reasons I chose to stay here, and was able to volunteer on the farm, located closer to Lucca, for a couple of days. I had been volunteering on other farms (in Sweden) during the summer, and these few days were absolutely one of the highlight of my travels. I hope to visit again!

As other reviewers have said, this agriturismo is a wonderful place to stay.  In this review, we’ll share some of our impressions that may help other travelers decide if this agriturismo is right for them.
The hosts, Elena and Federico, are very pleasant and helpful.  They speak English well.  Probably the most important aspect of this agriturismo is that you will feel like you are staying in an Italian farm family’s home – because you are.  In the morning and evening, Elena is present either in the kitchen or working around the house.  Federico will stop by either before or after going to the farm to work.  Their three children may be around too, playing in the kitchen for example, but we didn’t really find them to be obtrusive.  Other extended family members may stop by for a visit.
We are a family of two parents and two older teen children who are experienced and flexible travelers.  We were looking for an place to stay that is different from a hotel and would allow us a peek into Italian farm life.  Rarely over the three days we stayed there, this required just a few moments patience, but it was never unpleasant and the value of sharing the “home” experience made it one of our favorite visits. 
As for the food, Elena is a wonderful cook.  At our request, she was able to make vegetarian dinners that were not only delicious, but creative.  We visited in mid-winter, so she used root vegetables to go along with pasta.  Nearly all the ingredients were locally grown.  The house wine for €5 a bottle was fine.
Perhaps the most important benefit, to us, of staying at an agriturismo was that we could spend the day being tourists and return in the evening to a home-cooked meal.  This spared us the chore of choosing and looking for a restaurant for dinner, and it spared the driver the burden of getting up from the table and having to drive back to a hotel.  If you plan to eat in restaurants every night, an agriturismo may not be an appropriate choice.  But in this regard Agriturismo Biologica Nico was perfect because the food was excellent and the dining room was very relaxing.
The setting is also a highlight.  It sits on a south-facing hillside with a stunning view of wooded, rolling hills.  At night, there was absolute silence and darkness.  The mornings featured a misty stillness that is one of the highlights of a visit to the country.  Sunrises and sunsets were both wonderful.  Even in mid-winter, the area was very green.
Because the agriturismo is in a secluded location, it must be reached by driving along a narrow gravel road.  Our rented Fiat 500X handled the path with no problem, but it was helpful that passengers were available to get out and guide the driver through some tight turns.  Also, there is a steep walk up the hillside to the house from the parking area.  The reward is the unobstructed view from the house.  There is another house off to the side of the agriturismo, but we barely noticed it.  For planning purposes and as a conservative estimate, consider that it will take about fifteen minutes to walk down to the car and drive down the path to the main road.
Each time we returned to the agriturismo we were greeted by at least one of the two dogs, who are very friendly.  They played with our own dog, who was travelling with us.  There is also at least one cat around the property, but the member of our family who is highly allergic to cats was not bothered. The cat seemed to rarely come into the house.  There are also two donkeys, a large vegetable garden and other farm aspects of the house, but since we were there in mid-winter we didn’t see much of that.
Our family of four stayed in two of the bedrooms.  Each was very charming with country furniture, comfortable beds and complete silence at night.  Elena went out of her way to make sure our dog was comfortable too.  There is plenty of room in each bedroom, and a sitting area shared by all the bedrooms that was convenient, for example, when we were getting ready to go in the morning or leaving in the evening.  The four of us shared a large bathroom with Tuscan tile, a tub, and a separate shower.
Overall, everyone in our family thought that Agriturismo Biologica Nico was one of the most pleasant, most relaxing and most delicious places we have ever stayed!

It was a beautiful experience to stay with a lovely local family. Our son 4yo had a wonderful time with the 3 girls 7, 4 & 3. Meals were also with the family, made mostly with the farm's own produce, and was always delicious. There were also lots of animals to feed, and beautiful scenery all around.


We stayed with Elena and Federico for two nights and loved every moment. It was lovely to feel part of a young Italian family, and to hear all about their organic farming. Dining together with the family and the other guests was an integral part of the experience, and the food was excellent too. Our room was large and very comfortable in a traditional farmhouse way, but decorated with style and taste. The setting feels truly rural, but is only 15 minutes drive from the wonderful town of Lucca. In all an experience to treasure.
