B&B La Torretta di Via Tassis

First, this may not be for every traveler, since it is on 3rd floor and has no air conditioning. However, it is an absolutely unique early 1990s renovation of a typical Bergamo tower. If you love it, you'll love it a lot. From my window, my view cut across Bergamo rooftops toward the mountains and I could see the tops of the buildings in the main Piazza Vecchia. Beautiful. Although La Torretta is just a few steps from the main street, it's quiet, peaceful, and the entrance to the main courtyard is enchanting. The kitchen/breakfast room is the most amazing room in the flat, since it is the top of the tower. Full wall windows face both Northeast and Southwest, so you have almost a full panorama as you sit and eat a leisurely breakfast. I couldn't find a speck of dust anywhere. The house is so perfectly clean and well appointed. It's neither minimalist or cluttered, modern or traditional, but somewhere between. I was there when it was 28 degrees C. So it was hot, like every other place in Bergamo. If you require AC and it's summer, this may not be the place for you. But if you open the windows and turn on the fan, it's perfectly acceptable. It's the equivalent to an attic house, so there is a sloping roof. You feel at some points like you're in the rafters. This is balanced by the uniqueness of the place, the central location, a spotlessly clean room/bath, wonderful breakfast, good bed, ample rooms, and a kind, generous host. Enough said. I highly recommend!
