Hotel Enrico

I was very happy with this hotel. One of its main selling-points is its great location. A couple of minutes from both train station and beach and right there on the big shopping artery of town. Ideal! Hotel Enrico is a family-run hotel, so you won't get any of that big-chain, cold efficiency and perfection here. What you will get is friendly people who do their best to make you feel at home. The rooms are all clean and nice. As far as I can tell they will vary in their "modernity" as naturally this is not a big chain and they renovate rooms as they go along and can afford and so every room tends to be a bit different. Our room seemed recently renovated with beautiful bath facilities. We had a room with a sea view, which was nice - you could even see the sea from the bed. Now, the view to the sea - as can be seen in the pictures - is more diagonal and not straight on, but frankly if the map of Alassio did not tip you off (there is buildings between this hotel and the sea) I do not know how to help you. The view is nice, if you want a better one go on the roof or walk the 20m to the square with all the benches. The rooms are cleaned every day and always smell very fresh and clean after. The reception staff is helpful and friendly. The food is varied and good. Breakfast is continental: a good coffee machine that does all sorts of coffee, tea (back, herbal, green, fruit..) and chocolate, orange and blood orange juice, still and sparkling water; fresh foccaccia, fresh criossants (plain and chocolate filled), fresh plum cake plus packed busicuits and cake; fresh cold cuts (ham, cheese, salami), a wide selection of spreads (butter, nutella, jams), fresh fruit (apples, kiwi, oranges) and two types of cereal and tow types of muesli as well as milk. Lunch and dinner is usually pre-ordered at breakfast that day, but if you can't/don't they also allow you to choose at the meal. Meals consist of a starter, a main and a dessert and there is usually 4 or 5 options for each that change day to day (often 2 fish, 1-2 meat and 1 "veggie" option). The waiters are happy to answer your questions about the food and last minute changes are also allowed. For instance my mother-in-law had ordered some squid earlier in the day, but at the beginning of the meal she asked if she could have some bresaola instead (something that wasn't even on the menu) and the waitress happily brought her that instead. The staff is friendly and funny and not distant. That might not be your thing, but since I saw them being friendly, laughing and teasing with some older widows who would otherwise have some lonely dinners, I thought it was great. When we left the hotel before breakfast one day (to catch a train for a daytrip) which we hadn't told the hotel about the night porter caught us and gave us some fresh foccaccia and fresh-out-of-the-oven croissants and fruit so we'd have something to eat on the train. They also provided further assistance to my family including putting a relative in touch with one of their suppliers for olive oil, olives and anchovies etc and having those treats delivered to her in the hotel. It's a friendly, personal place and I will come back!
