The Sugan Hostel

If you like cozy and ecclectic this spot is the place! It is run by the Shire pub next door- that's right! Lord of the Rings themed. There is a cool funky vibe here. The accomodations are warm and friendly and everything is wood .There is free tea at all times. Its location is excellent for going to the national park, which we did. Downtown is super touristy, but that's to be expected with all the natural beauty around.

I am very happy with The Sugan Hostel! 

I stayed here may 2017 while recovering from a hiking knee injury, and though the beds are a little on the expensive side at 15 euro, nice showers, nice staff, and an incredible cleaning staff make it more than worth it. Not to mention the Lord of the Rings feel and Shire Bar next door! 

Absolutely recommend.

Fun and quirky place

Lovely place!

A group of friends and I were supposed to stay only a few hours, but once we stepped in the hostel we knew that it wouldn’t be possible. Mold everywhere, the room was flooded (it was raining for a few hours but nobody knew if someone left the windows opened or what), one bunk bed was not ready/clean and the list goes on...
But the WORST part was the bathroom, the door does not lock, no paper, no towel, no shower gel, and  there was a surprise in the shower: a wall full of blood and some sort of phlegm or fluids all over the place. I understand that it could have been a guest, but that thing was stuck, it wasn’t there for hours, but days!!! 
Some of my friends talked to the staff and they “cleaned” it, but for some reason only the blood was gone, the rest was still there. That was the point the whole group decided to leave to another hostel in town, cheaper, cleaner and with a great customer service!
Oh and “enjoy” your dirty pint glass with lipstick in the pub ‘The Shire’.

Gordon Ramsays Worst Nightmare!

After seeing great reviews and nice photos of the private rooms we made the mistake of booking at The Shire in Killarney.

My pictures say it all. Black mold, disgusting dirty showers and bathroom, leaking ceiling, dirty bedsheets, noisy generator, no bath towels or hand towels, shower gel or anything, rude and unhelpful staff, push button cold shower with dripping tiny nozzle. I have marks all over my back from the mattress springs coming through the top. The list is endless. 

Prisons in third world countries have better conditions and unfortunately I am downplaying just how bad it is. 

Oh, and this cost 390 euros for two nights for our group. You couldn't pay me, or anyone sane to stay here.

It's the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in, by a long shot. 

If you're the sort of person who likes no sleep, being ripped off and living in a slum then The Shire is the perfect place for you.

Gordon Ramsay's Worst Nightmare!

We payed 6€ when we booked. 
Then the staff charged us 37€ instead of 34€ .
The price was for the night + 2 breakfast as mentionned on the website of the hostel. But there were no breakfast, no kitchen, no coffee or tea: the man at the counter just offered us to get -10%  on the bill at the Shire Café. It was really unfair. 
by the way, the Lord Of the Ring atmosphere was cheap as hell.

Fly you fools!!

This place was filthy, bunk-beds head to toe, piles of dirty washing on the floor of the kitchen, oven thick with grease,broken furniture, plaster mouldy and falling off walls,broken dirty fridges. Disgusting showers and toilets.I have travelled  all over the world and I have never stayed anywhere where there is such disregard for the clientele.

Embarrassed to be Irish

Disgusting does not accurately describe this hell hostel! We had booked a twin room that was beyond tiny, had a wooden toilet seat and more mold than the health department should allow. The good thing was that they did let us switch rooms to a slightly better one. Bed springs broken, tiny sink that did not drain and don’t even get me started on the shower! I understand you get what you pay for but there should be basic human standards. The only redeeming quality is that they let us check out 1 night to go stay somewhere else early and gave us our money back for one night.

DO NOT STAY HERE!

It was disgusting, mold everywhere you look around in the bathroom. Dirty bed linen, a hole in our room door. After our compliant they offered us another room. It was a bit better, but also not what they have offered on their website. We didn't recieved a discount, so we left the hostel immediately. We can't recommend this accommodation.

Disgusting!

Many damp on the walls and ceilings, and an awful lumpy mattress  made  for a poor  start to my break. The shower is hopeless as well.Access by a steep set of dark stairs but a great comedy  night in the  bar

The room was booked thru air bnb, tiny beyond belief. Mattress was broken.  Furniture broken, dirty.No window just a skylight.Stairs was very dangerous. Strong smell of detol at the front door!!!  Disgusting...
