The Waterfront Townhouse Accommodation

I’m not sure why this place is taking so much heat on here! 

I thought my room was great - spacious, pretty, and the view from my room was amazing. You will hear the locals on weekend nights but hey, that’s part of the charm of the place. 
 
I stayed for about a week and felt very taken after - the staff brought by extra towels and necessities every couple of days.

The ladies at the Flaky Tart are incredibly sweet as well. And they make good coffee. 

This is truly a travelers perfect place to stay, I walked everywhere: to shop, to stroll, to eat. 

For the price it really is a great stay!! The people complaining on here forget that they are paying much less than a standard Kilkenny hotel room.

My pal and i called for one night on the offchance it was bang on so we stayed for the rest of our holiday the price was right the room was just what we wanted the landlady was perfect all in all 10 out of 10

I’m not sure why this place is being blasted so much but I feel lucky I didn’t read the reviews until after I booked. We arrived to a lovely cosy well presented and spotless room. We got a call before that just to double check things as we were arriving late. The location was amazing. The shower was perfect too.

Only reason I am leaving off a mark is for things that I regard as less important but still slightly annoying. We had to ask for toilet roll and were lucky to find the girl to help, Bathroom door was broken and we couldn’t make tea (neither milk nor water supplied).

Lovely stay and great city!

The good: Great location, and the owner was very friendly. The room had a great view overlooking the river. The bathroom was large and appeared to be newly remodeled.

The not so good: If you're arriving via car be wary about parking - the only good place is a nearby lot at Dunnes Stores. We were told it's €5 if you go to the booth in the lot and ask for the overnight rate but it was very confusing. We stayed 2 nights without moving our car and ended up paying €35!

Clean, cosy, warm and great locatioj

Friendly people and great location but painful parking

The accommodation, which on the internet is called "the Waterfront" but has a sign outside saying "Castle Inn Guest Rooms", had  no staff working there, the lady who works in the café below the "hotel" apparently helps by handing the keys to visitors (she was very nice by the way), we got to our room and to our surprise they were still getting it ready for us. 

The room was boiling and extremely noisy. The window need maintenance as it felt as if we were in the middle of the road. Between the heat and the noise it was impossible to sleep. 

The bathroom looks very nice at first sight, but it lacks commonsense (or care)  when it comes to functionality: there was no towel rack (nowhere to put our hand or bath towels), the shower was very (extremely) slippery and there were no mats or handrails, plus there was no ventilation. It really feels as if it was designed by a blogger who is all into aesthetics but has no concept of safety or practicality. 

The location is the only very good thing about this place.

All in all. Do not recommend. Might be a good option if all you want is go to the pubs, get hammered and go to bed, but other than that I would not stay in "The Waterfront"/ "Castle Inn Guest Rooms".

Booked room for four women. Site stated facilities as follows what we found was not that. 
Flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, WiFi free, toiletries available.
We found. No TV no tea and coffee making facilities, no WiFi in room. In fact room didn't have mirror. Main window didn't open, was old and mouldy, heater in room missing one wheel and supported by table, one bulb missing, bed's clean bathroom clean. Abit of climb to top floor but ok. After asking about missing facilities we were giving a double room one level down to use with booked room, TV, tea and coffee making facilities there, WiFi needed a password that we weren't given or could see. 
We wouldn't rush back. 

Disappointed

Very unprofessional service. We arrived at the B&B after booking through booking.com we had a wedding in the town close by.

Firstly we requested an early check in at 1pm to get ready which the B&B emailed us back and said our requested could be met and the room would be ready for 1p.m

Apon arrival we went into the cage next door where we met 2 lovely ladies helpful and chatty. Gave our name and we were informed the room wasnt ready as the house keeper had gone off and wouldn't be back until until 2.30! The wedding was at 2p.m.
The woman said she would allow us into the dirty room to change for the wedding and could leave our stuff there and would inform the house keeper that we had already checked in.It wasnt an ideal situation but we needed somewhere to change for the wedding so we agreed it would be ok. 

when we arrived in the room there was a gaping hole in the bathroom door with no handle the woman said someone will be here later to fix it so both the house keeper and the maintenance man would b in our room with out possessions. Again we didnt have much of a choice.

The lady kindly dropped over the keys to our room to the hotel after 5pm that day which was fine as we were out for the night at a wedding.

The Following  Day when I woke up I realised my new pair of sketchers were missing from the room that I had worn in and changed out of that day.
My partner had a look around for them everywhere and looked under the bed to come to his surprise that our bed was actually broken and there was 3 five litre paint cans holding up our bed and broken boards.

My partner went to reception to ask about my new runners and the lady kindly rang the house keeper and asked her had she seen them she thought they belonged to the previous tenants and had put them in the linen press so the cafe lady came up and got them out for me.

The location of this property is great but the disappointment of the room brought down our entire experience.
Based on these reasons I wouldnt recommended this B&B.

The Waterfront B&B

Kip is putting it mildly after complaining issues not resolved DO NOT STAY HERE. No remote control because guests keep robbing them. That's what I was told. How does that make sense. Sink blocked. Wasn't fixed so we were moved to another room. Guess what not remote control, no hairdryer, no connection for TV so no TV. Very tight on towels and toilet role. Basil Faulty hasn't got a patch on this kip.

- Got bad vibes straight away. You have to go to the Flaky Tart to check-in, which is the café below the B&B. We were left waiting there for 20 minutes without explanation. The staff weren't welcoming and seemed clueless. This was just a small taste of the bleak hell we were in for.

- A man appeared who lead us up a very grim staircase to a musty and cramped 1st floor. He told us to wait in the hallway while he collected a few things out of our room. He proceeded to haul a suitcase and a pile of clothes out of what was to be our room, and threw the items on the floor in the hallway.

- The man then brought us into the room and we discovered it had 2 single beds instead of the double we booked. He had clearly just removed all of the previous occupant's belongings, so the room hadnt been cleaned.

- The room was grotty and dated. I've never felt so completely scammed, because the amount they charge for this kip is robbery.

- The man said the cleaner never showed up and that he knew nothing - his only job is to hand over the keys. So the cleaner is supposed to clear out any occupants from the rooms as well? Don't use the cleaner as an excuse for your inability to run a B&B.

- We asked if there was another room. The man said he didn't know, and to ask in the café downstairs. He left, and we then discovered a bra and socks on the floor by one of the beds.

- While we were searching for somewhere else to stay, a woman walked into our room. This was the previous occupant and she looked understandably confused. The man approached her in the hallway and I don't know how he explained the situation to her.

- The only upside was that no money had been handed over yet. We went back down to the café and said we wouldn't be staying there for obvious reasons, and the woman said it was the only room she had. Honestly, even if there had been another room available, we wouldn't have stayed.

Do not stay here

I stayed here recently as I attending a wedding in Kilkenny.  The accommodation was adequate.  However my big gripe with this bed and breakfast, is that I paid on the morning of my departure, €89 with by ATM card.  1 week later I noticed the same charge on my bank account.  I rang looking for a refund as I have been charged twice, they where to ring me back, I rang and rang, still no refund a week later.  I would advise people to be very careful of using your card on these premises. I have reported the matter to my bank and also contacted booking.com about it, so still hope to get my refund.
