Breagagh View B&B

Rosaleen & Larry were so hospitable and super kind to a group of us who visited Kilkenny for a hen party. Rosaleen went above and beyond to accommodate us, her scones were amazing! Rooms were spotless and breakfast was lovely. Would happily return. Thanks folks.

We have been to breagagh View 4 times now for mini weekend breaks. Rosaleen and Larry have always met us with a smile. They are so accommodating. Rooms are clean and comfy, the breakfast is fab and freshly cooked to order. I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

I think I have a pretty good read on people, and I think these are good folks that run this B&B. But I understand why some of the comments talk about the grumpy husband. When I arrived, he was in the front yard trimming bushes. I smiled and waved, thinking he was probably the owner, but he only looked back at me with a blank expression, with no acknowledgement of my greeting. I thought it was funny.

The wife is overtly sweet, though not at all timid. She cooked a great breakfast the next day, and as I was squaring up my bill, the husband decided to become mildly sociable. Not a bad guy, just not particularly enthusiastic about engaging with strangers in a country known for being welcoming and engaging.

The facilities were good. The bathroom is tiny, as I have found to be standard in Irish B&Bs.

This place works well- it is clean, within walking distance from the castle and medieval mile, quiet with parking.
It is a very practical choice. Owners are friendly and helpful.
Having said all that, it is not luxurious nor exciting. breakfast is okay.

Perfect getaway

clean and welcoming

Rosaleen and Larry are welcoming and friendly hosts and they keep their guest house immaculately.  Personally I didn't find the environment made me feel that comfortable (not warm and fuzzy), even the chairs in the room were upright and hard. Breakfast was ok and our hosts certainly did their best.  Location is fine, though a good 20 mins walk into the centre or a 5-7 euro taxi ride

Clean and tidy Guest House

Breakfast was good but the owner didn’t seem to like his job and that reflected on our experience there.  Room was average and overpriced.  We usually stayed 2 or 3 night at B and B’s in Ireland and were relieved we had only booked one night here.  An owner of a Band B should be helpful - not the case for us.

Look farther for a better B and B

Well we found one of the rarest of humans at this establishment- a grumpy Irishman!

Although Rosaleen had greeted us warmly Larry had come down the stairs and merely looked through us and continued on his way. Still maybe he hadn’t noticed us as he manoeuvred around us.

After we checked in we read the long list of things that one wasn’t allowed to do on the premises ( including snacking in the room?), the thing that impressed me was a statement to the effect “if you have a problem tell us”. So I thought it quite reasonable to advise Larry that we had absolutely no wifi reception in our room. His response was quite amazing, he firstly told me no-one had ever mentioned it before. When I assured him that there was in fact no reception he got quite snarly and accused me of having a go at him. Then he told me it wasn’t his fault and that I had no idea how wifi worked, according to Larry it came via the telephone therefore it was the phone company’s fault - note to Larry, google up “wifi booster”.

The disappointing thing was no alternative room was offered even though Larry had said there were spare rooms and he’d try them. So we were reduced to sitting in the hallway like we were waiting at a doctor’sg surgery while we used the house wifi to book future accommodation on our trip around Ireland.

Larry must have taken his meds overnight as he was a different person at breakfast and breakfast was quite good.

We have stayed at a wide variety of places in Europe offering a wide variety of facilities. Everywhere except here whenever there was a problem (rarely) the hosts would work through the issue to find a solution - not accuse them of “having a go” at them!

Very disappointed

I was in Kilkenny on business with a party of over 10 individuals, I had initially planned on driving home to Dublin but was invited to stay by some colleagues. Myself and a few others went out and came in quite late, we were not disruptive but quietly went straight to bed. In the morning I was berated like a child by the hosts, it was patronising, humiliating and downright disgraceful to be spoken to in such a manner. I would rather sleep in my car.

Our hostess was very unwelcoming. Didn't seem to have the personality for hospitality. We were informed that the breakfast was only continental, which is very disappointing for our €200 room! 
The continental breakfast was very poor, we were offered toast, we said we would like some and were given 1 slice of toast each.  There was soggy croissants and a poor selection in general. 
We were informed that she would prefer cash as payment for the room, which was very inconvenient.

Very let down for a very expensive room.

We booked this accommodation for 1 night. We realised when we got home when €150 was taken out of my husband's account that we had actually stayed in a different breagha guesthouse. Both of these guesthouses are in kilkenny.  We rang the lady of breagha view to say we were sorry and ask if there was anything she could do to help us but she was extremely rude and unhelpful.  Genuine mistake as we would never just be a no show. Our advice is to make sure you know which breagha guesthouse you have booked, but we are glad after talking to the lady of breagha view that we didn't stay in this one.
