This place is perfectly located for touring Dublin, and there's parking. Our room was clean, modern and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accomodating. It was also great value. I would absolutely recommend a stay at the Cliften house.

⭐️ 10/10 Stay – Ideal for Croke Park & City Centre with Great Service and Location

We had a fantastic stay at Clifden House by Nina and I would 100% recommend it—especially if you’re attending a match at Croke Park or want to be within walking distance of Dublin city centre.

Booking & Service

From the moment I called with a parking query before booking, the receptionist was incredibly helpful. She checked availability, reserved a space for me, and when I rang back after booking online, she answered all my questions clearly and kindly. She also reminded me to speak to staff on arrival about parking—top-class service.

Parking

There is secure, gated on-site parking for just €10 a day, which is amazing value for Dublin. The entrance is tight, and spaces are snug (3 cars on each side with a drive-through lane in the middle), but as a fairly new driver, I managed fine. It’s best suited if you won’t need to move the car again during your stay.

Location

It’s about a 15-minute walk to Croke Park, depending on what stand you’re heading to. The location is also ideal for heading into the city centre on foot. Really couldn’t have asked for better.

Check-In & Rooms

We arrived early and were allowed to park even though check-in wasn’t until 3pm. I’d emailed at 8am to request two separate beds instead of a double—got a quick and positive reply, which I really appreciated.

When we checked in later, everything was smooth.
	•	My dad’s single room was compact but had everything he needed—tea, coffee, milk, desk, TV, and a comfy bed.
	•	Our triple room (upgraded from a double) was spacious, clean, and bright, with two single beds pushed together to make a huge bed, plus a separate single. There was tea, coffee, a clean kettle, mugs, toiletries (soap and shower gel), and beautifully soft, fluffy white towels in the bathroom. The big windows gave plenty of natural light but also had blackout blinds for a peaceful night’s sleep. No noise from other guests—just the occasional car alarm outside.

Bathroom

The en suite bathroom was spotless. Just a heads-up—the space is tight, so if you’re of a larger build, it might be worth requesting a room with a bigger bathroom. For average-sized guests, it’s perfectly fine.

Dining Nearby

We had dinner at Castle Vaults, a restaurant just a 2-minute walk from the guesthouse. The food was really good, reasonably priced, and service was great. I’d recommend booking in advance, especially on busy nights, to avoid disappointment. We also tried to visit One Society café earlier in the day (5 mins away), which looked amazing, but the queue was too long.

Value for Money

We paid:
	•	€150 for the single room
	•	€200 for the spacious triple room

These prices may reflect the fact that it was a sold-out All-Ireland Final weekend at Croke Park. Even so, given the location, cleanliness, service, and secure parking, I still found it very fair and excellent value for what we got.

Final Thoughts

I’ve worked in hospitality for years, and I was genuinely impressed. While online reviews hover around 7.5, I’d personally give this place a 10/10. The hospitality, cleanliness, location, and value were all outstanding.

Minor Notes
	•	Parking is tight—if you’re not confident behind the wheel, this could be tricky.
	•	The area, like many in Dublin, feels a bit rough at night—I wouldn’t walk alone late—but during the day, it’s absolutely fine.
	•	Bathroom space is compact in some rooms.

Would I return? Absolutely. A brilliant choice for anyone visiting Croke Park or the city centre who wants clean, friendly, and well-located accommodation with secure parking.

This is an absentee review. We often have to travel from Donegal to Dublin usually for medical reasons and we usually stay over at Clifden. Its well situated, reasonably priced, spotlessly clean and the staff are always lovely. This time the reason was not medical but business.
We were scheduled to go tonight but both of us woke up with chest infections and had to go see our GP. I e-mailed Clifden Guesthouse explaining that we will not make it and to please cancel the booking. I acknowledged that i am not entitled to a refund. 
HOWEVER - they wrote back that they will keep the amount i paid available as a credit against a future visit within 60 days! THATS SERVICE!!! i never expected that. Thanks to all at Clifden.

Lovely stay, booked a two night break for 5 of us in two rooms and paid a very reasonable price for a busy weekend when the rugby was on. 
Rooms were clean and had tea making facilities. Hot shower and bath. Beds very comfortable.
This is a city centre hotel so if you're a light sleeper take ear plugs and you will be fine. 
Old building so expect lots of stairs and no lift. Don't book if you struggle with accessibility. 
Location was great easy to get to all the main tourist spots. 
Staff very friendly and gave us tips for our stay. They will also hold baggage for you if you arrive early. 
You get what you pay for with Dublin prices but as a base to sleep and explore the city its fine.

Having read some mixed reviews, I wasn't sure we'd stayed in the same place as some other visitors.
The negatives ... the apartments are a 5 minute walk away (which might not be so good on a wet day) , they'renot pretty from the outside & our apartment (504) had an outside metal staircase which needed care as I'd hurt my knee before travelling.
The positives ...  Check was easy and very friendly ... we couldn't have got a 3 bed hotel stay for anywhere near to the price ... clean ... wifi ... good heating ... fridge/cooker/ kitchen table etc ... luggage store ... Would definitely try and stay here again on next visit to Dublin. 

The guesthouse's staff welcomes you very warmly and is here to genuinely help you. It feels like they are your own friends from start. The Guesthouse rooms are very clean and decorated with very good taste.  I highly recommend this place for a traveller looking for a high quality-to-value stay where to stay!

Had a lovely stay in the Clifden Guesthouse. It didn't feel like a guesthouse, more like a boutique hotel. Very friendly, welcoming staff at reception always made the effort to greet you by name. The interior was finished to a very high standard & I was particularly impressed by my ensuite room, which was very modern & well finished. I've stayed in other hotels in Dublin, where street noise was an issue, relieved that there were no issues with street noise here & the curtains did a great job of blocking out the street light, so had a great night's sleep. Looking forward to staying there again.

Extremely friendly staff and walking distance to dining options, pubs and major shopping places. The hotel does not have provisions for breakfast but good eating places very close by. Definitely recommend staying here.

I booked Clifden House 32 Gardiner Place because its location was perfect. The Wild Rower Tours departure is at Gresham Hotel and it takes 8 minutes to walk there from the Clifden House 32 Gardiner Place. If you like to have coffee or something to eat (or want to use toilet facilities before your tour)  Esquires Coffee opens at 6.30 am and it is located next to the Gresham Hotel. More about the perfect location of Clifden House: You can take the Airlink Express buss 747 to the airport easily, it takes only 4 minutes to walk to the buss stop from the hotel. And there was Irish night (some dance performance) in the hotel at Gardiner Place just few minutes from the Clifden House.
The staff of the Clifden House was helpful.They lent me adapter, printed my boarding pass and called me taxi when I had my other tour check in at 6.20 am at Molly Malone Statue and I prefer not to want to walk there that early. It takes 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to the the city center so at any other time it can be done without any trouble. There was crowd of people and earsplitting noise at Temple Bar area so accommodation in the north of the city was relaxing. The area...well lets say it was a little bit rough (especially as compared with Temple Bar area) but I felt secure there all the time. And if I say I feel secure then all other people definitely do. If I ever visit Dublin again I will definitely book this hotel!

10/10 Stay – Ideal for Croke Park & City Centre with Great Service and Location

Booked directly with the hotel as it was cheaper than the comparison sites. Requested single beds which was granted. 
Hotel / room had slight musty smelly on arrival but was aired out with window and bathroom fan. 
Nicely decorated. Iron and board available from reception. Good wifi. Tea/ coffee facilities, toiletries, hairdryer, hangers, plenty sockets in the room. Comfy beds. Luggage store available and all receptionists were friendly / helpful. 
Great location for centre if you don't mind a short walk. 
It's an old building so can be a lot of stairs (we were on top floor and quite steep) we also had a very dirty skylight in our room that rattled a lot on a very windy night. 

Good location for budget hotel 

I found the staff member on reception very helpful and welcoming on arrival, the room was very nice and clean. The bed and bedding was extremely comfortable. The location to the city centre is great and a nice walk if the weather is good like it was for me! My only issues were that there was a bit of an odour in the shower but I could only smell this whilst in the shower. And there was people walking around in the room above for a little while during the night which was quite noisy because of the old floorboards. I have looked at other reviews and find some of them quite unfair. There are a lot of stairs but it is an old building! I would stay here again.
