I visited Markree Castle for my daughter's wedding in June 2025. Altogether my  stay lasted three days, two nights. I must say that from beginning to end I had a wonderful time. The accommodation was top class, the food was excellent, the staff were brilliant and friendly and all our every needs were met. I genuinely can not find a single thing to complain about. It surpassed my high expectations. Nicholas, the manager, was always on hand, quietly making sure everything ran very smoothly. All in all, I couldn't wish for anything differently. Thank you very much for making our time special and memorable.

The Perfect Fairytale Wedding Venue - May 2024

We had our wedding weekend at Markree Castle and it was nothing short of magical. The castle is absolutely stunning—both inside and out—with incredible historic charm and breathtaking scenery. The staff, Deirdre, Nicholas, Eoin and the team were exceptional: warm, professional, and attentive to every detail. Our guests are still raving about the beautiful chapel ceremony, the incredible food, and the unforgettable atmosphere. Having the whole castle to ourselves for two nights created an intimate, luxurious experience we’ll never forget. If you're considering a wedding in Ireland, Markree Castle is a dream come true.

Markree Castle is exceptional. I would be in Markree Castle a lot as a wedding vendor but being there for our own wedding was mind blowing. It was even more breath taking than usual and the staff went above and beyond for us and our guests to make sure we were so well looked after. Nothing was missed. We were all treated like royalty from the moment we set foot until we checked out. The most magical place. We stayed here for one night and just wish it could have been longer. 
The castle itself is gorgeous and our room was very spacious and comfortable. The evening meal and breakfast were both delicious. 
All the staff are a credit to the hotel.... tyeybate extremely friendly and welcoming.

This was one of our favorite place to stay. It’s unfortunate that we only could stay 1 night, however it was a beautiful place. We definitely will stay again.

A castle of dreams!

Exceptional!

Magnificent castle and hotel. The only castle hotel we stayed in that truly felt like being in an authentic castle. Quite an impressive drive up to be topped off by the dramatic, candlelit, red-carpeted staircase. The claw footed tub in its own turret off of our bedroom was sublime. Not to be missed! From the stain-glassed windows and chapel, oversized paintings, the complimentary cakes and tea, to the manicured castle grounds, excellent breakfast and good dinner in the beautiful dining room with attentive staff.

A Must-Stay in the Often-Overlooked Sligo Area

Markree Castle is a great option for those staying in and around Sligo.  The castle itself is beautiful with lots of gardens on the property to explore.  The room we stayed in was spacious and the bathroom in particular was very nice.  Only cons in the room were no fridge and no easily accessible outlets by the bedsides.  The best thing about our stay here was the food.  The dinner was the best meal we had in Ireland (and we also stayed at Ashford Castle) and the breakfast was also very good

This is a once in a lifetime kind of hotel stay. I mean what can compare to staying in a castle ? The castle itself is super charming and unique. The grounds are immaculate. And the dining is wonderful. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Bed was comfortable. Room was quiet. I can’t say enough good things about our stay.

Spectacular location with spectacular service!! Really, there is not one area I can think of to suggest improvements - it was all so well done!

We were there for a family wedding, and they are clearly so experienced. The staff were all lovely. The food was wonderful. There were so many welcoming spaces in the castle and outside, too. All the benefits of the modern and the historical together.

Memorable and perfect!

Well what an amazing and wonderful venue for my Brothers Wedding. The beautiful gardens and surrounding are so well maintained. Our room was amazing and such comfortable beds and our view was truly stunning. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and the food was delicious. All I can say is Markree Castle was worth the wait.

Wedding Weekend

We were lucky enough to stay in Markree for a friends wedding. 
Everything about the venue was wonderful, the castle feels really authentic while also being incredibly comfortable and providing all modern necessities. 
The dinner and breakfast were both delicious. 
I wish we had more time to explore the grounds, which looked stunning from each window. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and the view of the winding river was very picturesque. 
The staff were very helpful and made our stay very pleasant.

My husband and I had truly the most magical wedding at Markree Castle, and I can't recommend it enough!
The Castle itself is the most picturesque with beautiful grounds and historical architecture which provided a stunning backdrop for our special day. As a bride from the USA, it felt like stepping into a dreamy European castle, complete with charming gardens and breathtaking views.

From the initial planning stages to the day of the event, their professionalism and attention to detail were exceptional.
