This eco hotel was a great find..Top class service . Everything we needed was available to ensure a comfortable stay. Great breakfast cooked fresh. Location is great and so.much to do in the Athlone area,the lakes,boat trips and boat hire ,,the Castle to visit,,theatre ,music ,walking and so much more

I never left a review good or bad in my life for anywhere I have stayed. From the moment I walked in the door and met Tommy I was made feel like part of the family. I was looked after like a king and my 7 night stay was first class. Honestly never met a more genuine and helpful guy. Every resident I talked to all said the same. Can't wait until I get an excuse to go back.👌👌

The warmth of welcome and subsequent care and consideration of the Host set the tone for my visit. The Eco Guesthouse is spacious , well kept and comfortable and homely. it is located close to town centre with plenty of parking.  I am delighted to have experienced an establishment that succeeds in offering good standards of accommodation in an environmentally sensitive way.
Breakfast is cooked to order.  The bar and lounge facilities gave a lovely opportunity to meet with other locals and guests . I hope to be back !!!

In truth it's not the fancy soaps in the bathroom or the chocolate on the pillow or room service on a silver tray that makes a place. It's something else, something a little more indefinable. If you're looking for the former in Athlone, you'll undoubtedly get in at the Sheraton or the Radisson (neither of which I've stayed in) but if you're looking for an experience, a warm welcome, a generous host with a fund of stories and a relaxed refuge with a homely feel where the locals wander in and out at will for the odd pint, then this is the place for you. The host, Tombstone Tommy, is what makes Coosan Cottage unique. I've stayed there twice with a small cycling group and both times we've been made so welcome, it's almost like visiting a member of the family. Tommy serves up a great breakfast, will keep you in chat, serves a great pint at his bar and is a fund of local knowledge. The rooms and facilities are fine, not five-star by any means, but as I said at the start, if you come to Tombstone Tommy's looking for five-star, you're entirely missing the point.

If you like leisurely cycling, Tommy's serves as an excellent base for exploring the Old Rail Trail which runs 40k along an old railway line to Mullingar. We left our cars at Tommy's and cycled to Mullingar where we stayed the night. Then we cycled on to Ballymahon along the traffic-free Royal Canal Greenway and spent another night there, before returning by minor roads back to Athlone for another night in Tommy's where the usual warm welcome was awaiting us. It was a fabulous trip through some of Ireland's most remote country and two nights at Tommy's bookended it perfectly. Tommy's won't suit everyone, but we found it very special indeed.

We had a family reunion here and it really was the perfect spot. So homely and relaxed. Tommy was a brilliant host , made us a gorgeous dinner with lots to choose from  (& even packed some leftovers for one our party who was leaving early the next day for a marathon). Great value for money, we'll definitely be back!

Great spot, lovely setting. Great sleep, room was just right temperature wise. Breakfast was bang on time and Tommy could not do enough. Very kind to the children's requests. Would definitely stay again, if we are in Athlone.

This is a beautiful area, and with the hotel being very close to lough tea. The hotel itself has plenty of parking and disabled facilities..

The proprietor Tommy is a character and is very welcoming and is a mine of information about the area, its restaurants, historical sites, nature reserves and anything else about the area you may want to know.

The hotel caters for stag and hen nights, as well as many other functions. 

The hotel itself is rustic in style and has a lovely warm atmosphere. All rooms have cable TV, irons, tea and coffee and free WiFi facilities in each room. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the beds are comfortable. The rooms have individual heating, so unlike many hotels it's very easy to get the room temperature right.

Close by is the huge Lough rea the second biggest body of water in Ireland and fed by the River Shannon. There are many walks around parts of the lough with activities for the children.

If you would like to get away from the bland corporate hotels, such as the Sheraton, Radisson etc, this hotel is a jewel, with all you wld expect from a high end hotel while retaining its own unique ambience and atmosphere.

Its well worth looking the hotel up and having a break, meeting real Irish people in a beautiful modern, but rustic hotel.

Booked here for the ploughing 2018 , which turned into a disaster, but Tommy was more than accommodating, breakfast was fab at whatever hour suited us , 6.30 am ! We stayed an extra night and he only charged us the same price as the other two nights even though accommodation was in short supply , lovely spot , big warm glowing fires in hall way and in the bar ! Rooms spacious , had 4 kids aged 17-11 and he was so good to them , even let them get takeaway delivered , gave them plates forks etc to eat their takeaways in the bar , 
Only complaint I have is that the room had a kettle and a teapot but no cups or tea/coffee , kettle was covered in dust , but there was renovations going on, , very accommodating and very friendly , WiFi could be better downstairs too ,tv could do with being a bit bigger ,  tommy is a fantastic host , more should be like him , will definitely return to here !
