The four stars are not for the facilities, which are just average. What sets this place apart is the effort that Laura and her staff put in to welcoming travellers and encouraging them to mix and talk with each other. Pride of place is the nightly free dinner, often hosted by Laura. It is an excellent chance to meet other travellers. I stayed four nights and every evening there was a different, tasty vegetarian meal. A minimal breakfast is also provided.
It is worth paying the extra for an aircon dorm; Yogyakarta is hot and sticky. The hostel is conveniently located in between the two main railway stations, a few minutes walk from either. The bunks are not well set up, lacking curtains, shelf, locker and reading light. But the atmosphere makes up for this.

A very friendly hostel.

This place is really great.I stayed twice here.They can improve a tiny bit on noise reducement as evening sometimes goes too loud, or if there is a group almost impossible to sleep, but that is rare. And also Indoensia is noisy in general. The vibe of this place is perfect, many common areas, prefect location in city center. Free breakfast and dinner included in the cheap price. I was in single room. Not too clean but not dirty. Staff is very very kind! They have animals too, special ones, like snakes(closed of course) .. and cute cats. I can only recommend this hostel!

Very good price, nice vibe

I visited Yogya at the end of August and stayed in Laura for 2 days. Such a lovely hostel with really helpful staffs! Nice location for budget travelling. I'll choose Laura again if I come to Yogya. Recommended!

Great staffs

We stayed 2 nights at Laura's hostel and were very enthusiastic. The dorms were clean and had a very nice and committed atmosphere. There was free breakfast and dinner; both were very tasty. A special compliment goes to the owner Laura. In the evenings she spends a lot of time with her guests and helps wherever she can. She knows Java and generally Indonesia very well. She gave us a lot of tips for our motorcycle trip Yogyakarta -> Bali and so we learned from  gems about which we would not have known anything else.

Top hostel with very helpful owner

Laura's was overall, really wonderful. The social aspect of the place was one of the best parts by far and the front desk was extremely helpful in terms of figuring out different things to do while in Yogyakarta. 

The beds were decently comfortable and there was a pillow and blanket provided upon arrival. The dorm that my friend and I stayed in was pretty safe and a really nice temperature. (Cooler than the rest of the place.) The only con about the sleeping situation was that we suspect there were bugs in the bed but we didn't get eaten up too bad. The shower/toilet situation was pretty decent, nothing incredible but it was private and you could get the job pretty easily. No warm water though. 

The food was wonderful with breakfast and supper included with as many helpings as you wanted which was nice. We stayed a few nights and each meal was vegetarian though I don't think it was vegan. Supper was especially great because everyone sort of was there at the same time so it was perfect for socializing and swapping travel advice. Made a fair amount of friends just during the short amount of time that we were there. There was also a hot water/cold water purifier available which was super useful for filling up a water bottle. Laura would come out for supper nearly every night and socialize with the group along with bring out her various reptiles to play with which was tons of fun. 

You can book a variety of things at the front desk, including a spa day at a local place which was INCREDIBLE and only about $10 USD for four hours. Highly recommend for any ladies planning on staying. (Guys aren't allowed, sorry.) 

Maliboro and other local attractions are within walking distance which is excellent as well and there are plenty of options when it comes to booking a trip to the temples such as Borobudur. 

Overall I would definitely stay at this hostel again if given the chance, it felt safe and the staff was so friendly.

Great People and Location

Its an amazing hostel, the rooms are airconditioned. They provide blanket and locker adittional to the bunk bed. Breakfast and dinner is included in the rates. Hot water and coffee is available 24hrs for free. Nice lounging area. Washrooms are clean. They also rent scooter. Very professional  staff. They have also a concierge book.

Meant for travelers on shoestring budget

We had a great stay. We met some really nice people and the staff was always very helpfull and friendly. Both breakfast and dinner were very good and the hostel was pretty clean. The atmosphere is really good. 

Great hostel with very friendly staff

This hostel is a bit overrated. Beds are not that comfi. Showers are cold and stink like old underwear. I haven't met any nice people yet but maybe thats just me. In general its a nice hostel but not better than the others.

Was ok but not that good

Absolutely normal home, no more, no less. Classic bedroom with a small locker in the hallway. Sanitary, it goes by. Actually, the big plus of this homestay is breakfast and dinner in the evening that are included in the fare.

Correct

Great hostel! Not expensive and two very good meals included. I recommend, it's very easy to meet at this hostel during dinner. The atmosphere is great. The bedrooms are nice. The shower is cold but with the heat it's absolutely not a bother.
