Me and 4 others rocked up here with no reservation ( we weren’t supposed to be staying in Parapat) .. after looking at various accommodation found Melissa Homestay and it was very affordable so we decided to stay here. Joe the son of Melissa was super friendly and gave us 3 double rooms, 2 of them facing forward onto the balcony with windows and one further back away from main road. The homestay has a balcony and a beautiful roof terrace to hang out on, and they also do a food menu which is ideal for when you need quick food without venturing too far. Joe helped us book our bus to Bukkitingi (he got us the best price and arranged it for us) as well as a taxi to the bus stop (Melissa ran out into the street to stop a taxi van for us in the rain!!) ..and then he came to say goodbye and check we were at the right place before we got on the bus. It was a great little find at the last minute with such nice hospitality, and is close to the port to get to the island over the lake. I would recommend this place for any budget backpackers in Sumatra!!
