Hotel Mutiara 2 Malioboro

We moved here after accidentally trying a small hotel down an alley around the corner. They had rooms, were close and had reasonable review ratings. I booked this as a walk in and the price was less than half of listed and matched Agoda's best price. The front desk was very friendly & helpful and one lady spoke great English. We got a Deluxe room in Mutiara II which is about 30metres down the street from the other Mutiara. We had a king bed. This is an old hotel and the rooms show it. They are very well used and were once quite grand but now show their age. I was fine with it as it had everything I wanted, the room was large, king bed, high floor with a view of the city, work desk with chair, fridge, kettle w cofee/tea/sugar (no whitener), TV (with a few English channels), bathroom with tub/shower, vanity, table with two chairs, soap/shampoo and a safe. The sink had hot water, very nice & both drains worked well. Wi-fi, free & at times could be quite slow but worked overall. Also there were floor to ceiling window sliding window shutters which made the room very dark. My wife was less impressed with the room but was okay with it in the end. They had a swimming pool which looked nice & had lounge chairs in the shade for use but our agenda did not allow us to use. If you are looking for new, don't stay here, it you want a great location & can tolerate a comfortable, old, well used hotel at a reasonable price this might be for you. The front desk is very friendly & they have a nice breakfast buffet, mostly Indonesian but have baked items, bread for toast & they will make you eggs to order, also cereal. They had coffee/tea & great juices- star fruit & kiwi, very nice. If we ever come back, would stay there again because it was well used, past due for a makeover (that would raise the price) but was clean, had a great location in the heart of Malioboro Street, nice staff & only a block from the Malioboro Mall which has a supermarket in the basement & various restos.
