Top notch with the finesse level of hospitality here. From arrival till departure. Daily am so well pampered by the staffs whom are extremely caring and sensitive where you are going and what you need have with you. 
Enjoy the serenity surround, calmness and the beauty of this place. Very family oriented and food was something I look forward every night after my tour ….melts in your mouth. 5 stars service and brings you back to nature.

An exciting place for a classic houseboat stay. Built in 1940s, it has so much history and character that anyone going there is spell bound by it’s beauty and legacy. Dal lake on one side of the houseboat, most amazing views of the gardens on the other side makes it a unique experience. Home style cooking and bon fire on request made us feel at home and very comfortable. Definitely must visit if in Srinagar and want some peace away from the hustle of the city.

The kindness of Gulam Butt as he welcomes his guests, the attention of Ramzan who serves delicious meals cooked by Madho, with the  boatman of Kashmir, Lassa, on hand to take you for a shikara boat ride on Dal lake make staying on Butts Clermont Houseboats an unforgettable experience. The location, with the houseboats  moored along side upper Dal lake is superb, waking in the morning to see the snow capped mountains mirrored in the lake or the reflection of the moon at night. A wonderful excursion was visiting the homes of those who make the world famous pashmina shawls, climbing up the hill to visit Hari Parbat fort with spectacular views over the sprawling city of Srinagar and walking amongst the beautiful flowers in the Nishat bagh, the terraced Mughal gardens.  I would go back in a heartbeat!

Butt's Clermont Houseboats are unique. They have a view over Lake Dal. They are constructed in beautifully carved cedar wood and decorated with, amongst others, the crewel curtains so typical of the craftwork of Kashmir. They have full bathrooms, with even a bath. The meals are typical Kashmiri, totally mouthwatering, brought across from the kitchen and beautifully served. If required, there is a wonderful wooden stove and hot water bottles put in the bed at night. A truly unforgettable experience.

Staying at Butt's Clermont is like staying in another era--thanks not least to the hospitality of Mr. Ghulam Butt, who has been running this business in his father's footsteps for decades. Even before you arrive, you will get a taste of his exceptional care for guests and their wellbeing (calling to check on dietary preferences, airport pick-up needs, etc.). As soon as you step on board, you will find yourself treated like a venerated member of the family. You'll be fed delicious meals in your private dining room, and Mr. Butt will personally help you plan every detail of your stay in Srinagar--shikara ride, local tours, etc..

The boats are located in a secluded area of Dal Lake, in walking distance of the Hazratbal shrine. Each one (we had a chance to tour them all) features beautifully carved interiors, traditional decor, and rear decks where you can sit on a banquette, sip your kahwa, and watch the waterbirds. 

This is not five-star luxury in the way more conventional hotels provide (bathrooms have seen better days, furnishings are a bit faded, etc.). But it is something even rarer, a kind of travel experience that it's astonishing and wonderful to discover still exists.

A special place steeped in history and unmatched hospitality. We were treated with the utmost care and kindness. Mr. Butt enthusiastically called us a day prior to confirm we were coming and just as enthusiastically greeted us when we arrived. He genuinely loves meeting new people, sharing his little piece of history and making you feel right at home. We has reserved a double houseboat, but were upgraded to a three bedroom at no extra cost which we had all to ourselves! Upon arrival we were served lovely cups of kahwah and fresh, homemade donuts. While it is by no means a luxury accommodation (ever since their glory days, they have suffered - as has everyone - from the turmoil with Pakistan and utter lack of tourism) - it is an enriching, quirky and charming place to stay. Unlike all of the other houseboats it is located on such a beautiful stretch of Dal Lake ... serene, private and green. It felt like we had stepped back in time. Mr. Butt surely knows how to pick a wonderful, loyal staff: Lassa has been a shikara driver his whole life, speaks perfect English and knows just about everything there is to know about Dal Lake - the highlights of our trip were the sunset boat ride and sunrise boat ride to the floating vegetable market with him and his nephew Omar; Ramzan is an efficient and friendly attendant; and Shafi is a knowledgeable and reliable driver. All in all, when in Kashmir, stay at Butt's!
