We stayed at the Avalon Courtyard on our last night in India, and they saved the best til last. This hotel, run by a Japanese lady named Rika Sawae, was excellent. After leaving the chaos that is the streets of Delhi you are greeted by a small Japanese styled courtyard. After passing through the glass doors you enter an atrium, where all the rooms look down into the inner sanctum of the hotel. The roo s are spacious, including a lounge, bedroom and a small kitchen with a fiull-sized refrigerator. The bathroom was roomy, and the whole vibe projected a newness instead of the worn furnishings experienced at other hotels throughout India. The restaurant was wonderful, and the Teriyaki Chicken was a welcome relief from the endless curries. The staff were attentive and friendly, and Miss Sawae was genuinely interested in our opinions. I would highly recommend staying here and, while it wasn't 5 stars, it was close and certainly way better than most of the other 4 star hotels we stayed at during our trip.
