It's not a guesthouse or a Gesthouse, but a real Icelandic house, a little difficult to find, welcomes you to the very kind owner. It looks like a museum, you'll get lost looking at all the myriad objects that it has scattered everywhere. There's a narrow staircase that leads up to the rooms, small and spacious but cozy, accommodation for people without claims, if you want the services and standards of a hotel, choose a hotel. You can use its kitchen.

We stayed here for a single night last Saturday during our tour of Iceland. We spent 50 euros per person, which is basically the price we paid in the various facilities (or hostels or accommodations) that we tried, probably because we booked late. In this case the price is high because the house gave the idea of poor cleanliness and the tiny, narrow room didn't give a great clean feeling with the carpet in the closet; maybe the least bad bathroom, but you use pickles, to say it's clean is difficult Unwashable kitchenware and old accessories, I don't know if they've ever been washed properly. If you can look for something else

Look for something else

It's basically an old icelandic fisher house from the 1960-70s, where the owner has converted the upper floor into guest rooms.

It's a rustic, quaint atmosphere (think about you grand parents style) so  be aware that its not a hotel and it doesn't intend to be - there are a couple of hotels and hostels around if you look for something more  "professional". But then you also have to pay the price for that.

Our rooms and beds were nevertheless clean and we were also okay with the bathroom and kitchen - which was old but also clean.

That being said, the stay can be a lot of fun if you take the time (and are interested) to have a small chat with the host. He's got some really interesting stories to tell (e.g. how his family had to flee off the Westernann islands due to a volcanic eruption, when he was a kid), etc.

So in a nutshell: You pay for a *homestay* in an old icelandic fisher house with a lovely host who is fun to talk to.

For me, it was one highlight of our trip - but you have to open and the type for that, if you want to enjoy this.

Fun and very special experience - but only if you are the type for it!

The most heartwamring experience this trip. This should be in your itinerary if you wanna expererience not just Iceland but also life in it. Heimir is lovely story talker. Last time i was so entertained when i was reading Harry Potter. Volcanos, music, WW2, goverment, life. Choose a topic and he will tell you a story. And not just any kind of story but a one he lived himself or from a person he knew. The house itself is a story. Fancy people from modern cities will never be happy here, because its not hotel but someone's home and you must keep that in mind. Original Icelandic house with history. But beware!!! He will make you love the place so much that you will miss him and his house the very next day. 

You're not paying for bed, but for the fun. 

We enjoyed the exceptional welcome of an authentic Icelandic, a nice meeting We exchanged about Icelandic music, history and culture... Heidmir is very available to his guests and we really enjoyed his visiting tips! It is a very friendly guesthouse where you really live with the inhabitant, which is rare! if you return to Iceland we will return home with pleasure

However, the bathroom didn't look clean, there was hair in the shower, the pillowcase was rotten, in bad condition, the house is original, but I think I would look for something different on another occasion even if it was a little more expensive.

Different, but I don't think I would repeat it.

The guest house is the most picturesque you can find. It is a small house of 4 bedrooms and steep stairs where you take advantage of the space up to the highest of the extremes and also the owner cohabits. It is worth visiting just for the decoration, the beds are comfortable and although it looks to be everything.so since it is overloaded with decoration is not so bad.One of the peros is that it can only be paid in cash (accept euros).

A picturesque place to visit.

This is the place we paid the least during our 2 week holiday. We thought it was going to be horrible but its not. Yes the house is very tiny and full of stuff, like a museum! But, i found the bedrooms really clean, beds are comfy and we had the best view! What more do you need?!

Worth the money

Old place and very unattended. Cleanliness is scarce, shared kitchen is quite dirty. The owner lives in the same house. It is worth spending a little more and going to another place. The price does not fit the services offered.

There is no repetition.

We arrived at Heimir's place after a road trip on what seemed to be the longest unpaved road in the world. Glad to find out that Stykkisholmur was actually a real village and not just a name marked on the map, we were even happier to meet Heimir. His place is simply charming. Our room had a view on the bay, the beds were very comfortable and the room extremely clean.There was a storm the night we stayed there but we slept like babies. The rest of the house is a jewellery, full of old and, I believe, meaningful things. I loved the kitchen and all the tools carefully placed in it. If you are not curious enough you will see just a kitchen in it. The bathroom is small, cozy and clean.You really don't need anything else from a bathroom. Do you? We kind of regreted we are not musicians. Heimir has a kind of music temple in his house. Guitars are jumping up from every corners.
If you are not hard to please and you like simply stuff and warm atmosphere you should definitely spend at least one night at Heimir's and enjoy the sleepers you are provided with upon arrival.
