What a place. Your own individual cabin with a beautiful view of the fjord. a quick walk up to the restaurant and bar, and some of the best food we experienced. Beautiful location, and excellent, kind and helpful staff obviously loving their occupations. Highly recommended and we will be back.

The location, the service, the rooms - everything at Hofsstaðir Country Hótel is top notch. The restaurant sources ingredients from local farms and offers high quality meals.

This is a superb base from which to enjoy the offerings of the beautiful Skagafjörður area.


a spectacular location & exquisite rooms. The rooms are quite unique, and a spectacular location for viewing Northern lights.
We only stayed 1 night but would have happily been to extend.
The meals in their dining room were fresh, local and offered alternative for any diet.


We stayed one night at this guesthouse on the recommendation of friends. We were very glad we did! Beautiful room, clean, very welcoming and helpful staff! The breakfast was delicious as was the dinner we had the evening before. The view from our room was outstanding! 

Hofsstadir Country Hotel is truly a hidden gem! A 5-star experience!
Situated in a quiet countryside, the hotel has a spectacular view over the Héraðsvötn estuary and Skagafjörður to the north. Our room #32 was very clean, had floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides offering a 180-degree view over the tranquil surroundings, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with free toiletries, a seating area, and a small patio. Everything very tastefully done.
We had a lovely dinner at the restaurant, horse tenderloin, and a delicious homemade birch and rhubarb ice cream for dessert. As there are no other restaurant options in the immediate vicinity, you should remember to book a table when you arrive. You won't regret it, the food is so good! Breakfast was excellent, too, all produce was fresh, and a lot of it locally sourced from nearby farms. Homemade bread and different types of jam were delicious. Overall, the buffet had a more varied selection than you normally see, with a selection of cold cuts, fish courses, different kinds of cheese, and cake to name just a few. 
The staff was really friendly, always courteous and smiling. 
Tranquility, peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings, ambience of welcoming and warmth - the keywords describing this amazing place.
Hofsstadir gets our highest recommendations - 5 stars. We would have loved to stay longer and will try our best to be back.  

This lovely hotel is set on a bluff in the middle of nowhere with spectacular views in every direction. Each room has its own small patio/deck to take in the gorgeous scenery. Definitely, a "must" stay. 

What a fabulous family hotel.  We were in a new room and had a wonderful Mountain View.  New modern rooms with a view.  Good homemade food.  

Breakfast was so many choices and homemade cake and pudding plus homemade jam.

The hotel was run by the family and they were so friendly.

Super sweet boutique accommodations literally in the middle of nowhere. Wild horses running on the countryside, some wandering up to the patio of the individual cottage style rooms during the night. 
Breakfast and dinner in the main house with friendly and helpful staff. 
Such a beautiful experience

Difficult to find, but once found, WOW!!! Such an incredible and tranquil setting, very nice/private rooms with decks and superb views. The dining room was especially lovely with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the magnificent setting. Only upset was the arrival of  two tour busses  (how NOT to visit a beautiful country).  We stayed just one night.  My husband loved the lobster pizza  and I enjoyed an excellent cod dinner.  Highly recommended, just make sure your arrival does not coincide with a bus load of buffalos!

Stayed at this charming country hotel on our trip. A lovely quiet hotel which is pretty isolated. The bedroom was large and comfortable with a scandi feel. Beautiful views from the room. It was also very quiet. Breakfast was excellent and we ate in the hotel at dinner, again the food was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. We would recommend and we would definitely visit again

A hidden gem!

Remote, GORGEOUS Setting!

We loved our 2 night stay and would happily go back .The only criticism we had was the lack of vegetables with the food - if you don't count  a potato as a vegetable. The staff were lovely, food was mainly very good, albeit a little limited in choice (cod was fabulous but lobster pizza fairly ordinary and the lamb was little tough -as is fairly normal across iceland for some reason). Breakfast good and the room was clean and well organised. We had clear nights every night and saw the northern lights in late september every night. Wonderful. 
Their team really cared if everything was going well and the food was good etc . Very nice and capable people. Hiking was also good locally

Charming country hotel

This hotel is in an isolated area and the views are absolutely stunning.  We stayed in one of the newer units and found them well appointed.  It did take us a bit of time to locate this hotel..I would rely on a map/directions rather than just on GPS.  The hotel is very secluded and several in our party thought it would be great to spend a few days to relax.  Given the isolated area, we had our dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was fine.  Overall, the view was just great...and very different than the landscape at other places we visited.

Stunning view

This hotel is a gem in the middle of nowhere. The views from the room are amazing. Very clean and spacious as well. The dinner was fabulous we had beef, however the horse looked great too unfortunately by our seating time the horse was sold out. We were able to try some on the breakfast buffet the next morning.

What a find

We booked dinner reservations before arriving, definitely recommend.   We both had the lobster pizza, it was phenomenal.  Breath taking views from every seat in the dining room.  Rooms are large rectangles with front and back porch.  They have a sitting bench at the enterence and a table with two chairs near the back patio.  Both patios have the option to sit outside.  If ever back in Iceland would stay here again.

Fabulous stay

Our rooms here were modern and comfortable, but the views were not to be beat by any of our hotels over our entire trip. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the warm June sun. The breakfast was lovely and they asked what time we would be coming so the dining area would not be too crowded. We did not eat dinner here but rather drove into the town a bit further west for dinner.

From the very first greeting, we could sense that this family-run hotel was going to be warm and welcoming. We were very lucky to get room 32, with a spectacular 180 degree view of the estuary. The room was clean, warm and with all the amenities we expected. Dinner was marvellous as was the breakfast. We only stayed one night, as our tour company wisely thought this somewhat remote hotel was a good stopover on our 14-day journey around Iceland. The Country Hotel was one of the top places during our visit to this wonderful country.

Family run with pride

I had been exchanging calls and emails with them since 2019 to postpone our stay at this beautiful location 3 times because of this Covid pandemic.  

Their response and service had always been outstanding, thanks to Laufey’s impeccable cooperation. But that was nothing compared to when we finally arrived at Hofsstadir - Country Hotel.

a.	People. From the owner to the staff, everybody here is happy to serve customers and ensure their best experience with them. You can feel it, all the time, in the smallest details.

b.	Accommodation. Great rooms with amazing views of the estuary. Amenities are plentiful, beds are comfortable and the Wi-fi is very powerful. During the pandemic, the family invested in refurbishing their rooms and even adding a new room category for additional options to customers. These folks really want build and maintain a first-class operation.   

c.	Location. Yes, the location is a bit remote but that is the charm of countryside accommodation. And this place has so much more to offer than other accommodation options in nearby Skagafjörðu that it is absolutely worth the 18 km drive from highway 1.

d.	Cuisine. The hotel offers a diversified menu delivered with impressive culinary expertise. A glass enclosed dining area offers amazing views of the surrounding valley.

We wish to thank Laufey and her team for allowing us to enjoy their beautiful establishment. Their service and personal touch contributed to engraving a most enjoyable stay in our Iceland memories.
