My husband and I just spend one night at Myrin Guesthouse.
Self check in and check out was very easy.
We have found so efficient this kind of guesthouse. 
The only disadvantage is that there was not any hairdryer.
The distance to city centre was like 6 minutes by car. 
Overall, the room no 2 it is perfect  and you also have a shared kitchen.
I really reccomend  this guesthouse.

Very nice place

Large, well furnished room with a kettle n fridge. Just next door was the huge common kitchen with tons of food. Saved by cooking our own dinner given that Iceland is a very expensive place to eat out. Central quiet upclass neighborhood. 2 minutes from the Lotus Hotel where there's an airport shuttle every half hour!

Excellent place

The guest house was easy to find when using the gray line transfer service from the airport, they drop you just up the road at a local hotel and its a 2 min walk to the guest house. The guest house is actually 4 old shop units converted into 3 rooms and a reception/kitchen/dining area. We were in room two adjacent to the kitchen. Check in is done by a code being sent via email to you and the code is for a box outside the reception to allow you to have your room key and key to the reception/kitchen/dining area. Very straight forward, the kitchen area contains a small electric hob, sink, fridge worktop and a few other bits like cutlery etc... there are even some food bits like teas etc left for you... We advised Tina the owner to invest in a microwave which she said she will be getting soon. To get to your room you have to go outside lock the kitchen and walk around the side..
our room was basic with twin beds two nice chairs a table with kettle etc.. a good size TV with a few channels on a couple of English i think. The bathroom or maybe better wet room consists of small sink, shower room and toilet.. be warned the hot water which is naturally heated is very hot..!! all in all very clean basic but exactly what you need on a budget, we would not hesitate to stay here again as a base for exploring this fantastic beautiful country (though lots of things are expensive)

Excellent budget guest house

5 STARS FOR HOST & PRICE. Bed was very comfy. Bus stop is nearby if you're into that...we were not and renting a car really paid off on day trips. There's a cute kitchen in the front. Grocery is a 5 min drive. Too far to walk it IMHO. Ask host IF you need to do laundry but try to avoid it if at all possible. Knocked off one star because a) it is a renovated business bldg not a hotel or house and b) the bathroom (while pretty cool in all other aspects, like the gigantic walk in shower but got wafts of the smell like the mineral springs...but that is to be expected here...it is SO close to the locals favorite swimming facility. We went often. Cheaper than the other places.) We had our privacy which was great. Bring eyeshades for sleeping though...not only is Iceland short on darkness in summer, one whole wall of my room was glass. I think all rooms are ground level. Oh yeah: the fridge is not equipped with a freezer, you'd have to use the community one in shared kitchen.
