This was a bucket list night and we saw the Northern Lights! Absolutely one of our favorite nights on our trip and the hot tub was easy to use and a huge bonus. The fire was easy to start and kept us warm all night. We ran out of wood though and didn't realize until morning there was more accessible in the kitchen. Whoops! There was a small bottle of sparkling Asti so we each had a glass and they had a few little macaroons which was nice. Hardly a mini bar and hor de vours as advertised lol but we were happy with them and thought they were a nice touch. When we arrived we could not find the email with the passcode to get in and were able to call someone who helped us right away. Only thing we'd say is that the view was mostly city lights while we were expecting something a little more private, but we did have plenty of privacy from the other domes. A short fence on the right side of the property would be a great improvement! All in all, it was one of our favorite stays and we would recommend!

Fantastic property with spectacular views from the dome!!

Had booked this as our flight for our flights and hotel deal was rearranged so instead of extending the hotel booking, we book this as a nice treat for our honeymoon. We didn’t have a car and the public transport to the area was good. A bit of walking at the end which was annoying with our suitcases but nothing we couldn’t handle, just glad the ice and snow had let up! We did get a taxi back from Reykjavík at 1am after a tour and that took only 15 mins and cost around £35 on the Hopp app for reference. 

Collecting the keys from the key safe was easy given our check in information messages to us a few days prior to our booking. The dome was warm when we entered and the gift of macarons and a small bottle of fizz were appreciated! The hot tub was already on and to temperature. Had a lovely soak before our northern lights tour. 

When we got back at 1:30am, the dome had cooled a few degrees but wasn’t unbearable at 18°C. We move the heaters a little closer to the bed. I slept well and was warm. The bed was very cosy, and warm once you were under the duvet. My husband was a little chilly but that is likely our fault as we didn’t use the fire due to the fact we weren’t going to be in the dome for much of the evening. There were also blankets we could have used and a hot water bottle which we also could have used. We were just too tired when we got back that late! It was also -4°C outside so it was expected to have cooled down a little from the daytime temperatures in the dome. 

The kitchen facilities in the dome themselves were basic with a coffee machine and kettle but the kitchen facilities by the shared toilets were excellent. 

I was a bit worried after reading the negative reviews but was very pleasantly surprised with how different an experience we had. Would definitely come back!

We stayed on the 28th December 2024 for our son’s 13th Birthday. We stayed in the Hekla dome, and all we can say is WOW!!!!! The dome is amazing, the view is amazing, the experience was amazing. Our two kids (9 &13) loved the bunk bed and whilst cosy it wasn’t cramped even with four of us. The radio is a great addition to sit and listen to whilst playing cards or chess and watching the night sky. We spent a couple of hours in the hot tub both of an evening and first thing in the morning, relaxing, watching the sky and chilling out. Overall we had a fantastic experience and it really made our son’s birthday super special.

Accommodation was first class, even down to the robes and good glassware. Had a minor problem with toilet, I emailed them and within hours they had it repaired and serviced the room. Top class service.

Attended the property as a treat for myself, loved the facility and fireplace - was as cosy as I wanted it to be and bed was comfortable. A couple of places will deliver food but you'd otherwise need to bring with you or have a car. The surrounding area is 'average' but it's fully disclosed in pictures if you review this beforehand and didn't impact my experience. The hotel staff were great with answering my calls when I had questions and taxi service was prompt when I booked this the night before. Only wish there was more firewood as I could have stayed up all night reading in front of the fireplace.Tips for other prospective guests: - to/from the bus terminal in the city then catch a taxi to accomodation to save on money. The taxis to the bus terminals are quick. - the hotel supplies earplugs which work great as if it is windy, you are outside and subject to the elements so noise is natural.

The dome was very nice,  we liked the stove heater inside the dome. It was located in the city though - we thought it would be outside the city and it had a small older amusement park/putt putt golf next to it which was a little strange.

We went there on our 11th wedding anniversary. This was absolutely perfect in every way! Amazing hot tub - amazing view - comfy beds -ultra cozy feeling - we are definately comming back. Best stay we have ever had in Iceland. 5 starts!

A lovely end to our honeymoon!

Hekla dome stay 28/12/24

I’m glad I didn’t read these reviews before we stayed.  My expectations were met with anticipating a glamping experience- beds were comfortable, it was a novel experience! Bathroom had running water and shower was hot. Kids were thrilled with the uniqueness and this was one of the highlights of the trip for them! We didn’t see any staff but we didn’t need to as we were provided instructions on accessing the dome. We were able to check in early which was appreciated with the overnight flight. There’s a small mini golf and foot golf  course which we were able to use based on staying in the dome. In the fridge was two sparkling waters, Pepsis and mini champagnes. Outside of our King suite we had a hot tub and there was a small barrel sauna out on the yard.

Novel glamping experience

Love the atmosphere and the fire.  The place is right near like an outdoor entertainment center so that was a little weird when trying to find the place.  Everything was quiet and a great place to spend time with my husband.  LOVED it.  The only concern was the tent zipper getting stuck and difficult to close a little.

Four of us stayed in the Hekla dome that includes two beds, hot tub & private bath. It was awesome! The guests that slept in the bed by the fireplace were cold throughout the night when the fire went out (the warmth of the heater seemed to be directed up, not down at the bed), but the two of us in the upstairs bed were nice & warm all night. The beds were so comfy, hot tub was fun, place was clean & the entire experience was awesome/one of a kind! The staff were nice and super helpful too!

Dome Experience

We loved the Domes! We stayed in the King Suite.The kitchen and bathroom made a major difference and I didn't feel cramped. We made some of our meals to save money and spend it on the sites.We enjoyed the mountain view from our bed. The wood burning stove is also a major bonus as we felt so cozy and warm. There was an unexpected gift awaiting us upon our arrival. And, we met the housekeeper who was so friendly and accommodating. We saw the Northern Lights twice from our hot tub and once through the big window, though it is a little glossy, making it hard to see. The parking is convenient, less than 2 minutes to your door. One word of caution if you are looking for a wilderness escape. . . you're not in the middle of the city, but you are in the suburbs with some light pollution. One of the benefits to the burbs is how close you are to gas stations, grocery stores, and other necessities. There are buses that run on the main route, which isn't far from the domes.I highly recommend that you give the Domes a try. They're a little pricey, but worth it!
