We are an italian family and stayed in this lovely hostel in September. The room and the shared rest of the house were very clean and confortable. The rich breakfast was served in a very nice room. There was also a fantastic Gym ! But what i liked the most was the kindeness. In fact my daughter lost her loved Teddy bear in her bed and we realized that too late. When we came back in Genoa we found "Leonardino" waiting in our mail box !!! Thanks a lot from Alice.

Kindness 

A lot of places where you can catch your breath after a day of sightseeing / wandering. As in most places it would be nice to have more electrical sockets to charge the equipment :) but otherwise a nice place to rest. Bathrooms clean and the shared kitchen offers everything you need. Breakfasts ok, although it is better to come sooner because in order to not waste anything at the end you have to say what you want and wait :)

Away from the road

Good location, nice view over Bingvallarvegi. 20m driving from Silfra. Clean and comfortable. Nice and helpfull staff. The rooms was great. Near there is a farm with beautiful icelandic horses. Well equipped kitchen.

To be honest, we didn't really know what to expect from Ljosafosskoli hostel whenever choosing to stay there. Yes, it is a hostel, but not quite compareable to the ones you can find in big cities. It's an old school that was converted into a hostel. A lot of features still remain, like a big gymnasium where you can play football.

So, once we arrived, we were greeted by the nice guy working at the reception. He showed us the facilities and explained everything we might need to know.
We got a private room on the first floor, which was small, but neat and clean. The bathrooms are shared, but theres enough for all guests, we never had to wait or que.

Most people tend to prepare their own meals in the shared kitchen in the basement. That might be because there's no restaurant onsite or in a walking distance. The next restaurants or supermarkets are a 15 minute drive in Sellfoss. They provide kitchen utilities and basic supplies like oil, flour, salt and so on. Be prepared to wait a bit for your turn to cook during the main dinner time.

We totally loved this place, it had a really unique feeling, plus the great location (very close to Thingvellir NP and also less than an hour to the other Golden Circle sights) makes it a very good place to stay. The surroundings of the hostel are very scenic as well. If you're coming in winter and are a bit lucky (like we were), this is a great area for seeing the northern lights!

Would totally recommend staying in Ljosafosskoli to anybody who doesn't mind a shared bathroom and cooking for themselves.

great Hostel in strategic location

This is not for the hostel accommodation: 6 of us stayed together in the self-contained house / bungalow behind the hostel. This was very clean and tidy, with spacious lounge and kitchen. We had everything we needed, beds for 6 of us and parking outside the front door. We found through Airbnb and the price seemed very reasonable.
Kitchen had lots of pots & pans, a coffee maker, microwave, etc. The house was warm and cosy.
