This place was perfect for our mid journey stop en route to northern Iceland.It was so cosy and welcoming, with everything catered to. The owner left us some very useful tips about things to do and see nearby.We had an incredible night here as we got to see the aurora in a cloudless sky for hours!!!The seal watching nearby, the next morning was a bonus.

We drove here bummed because we haven’t seen the northern lights yet. Late at night we heard rumbling outside and the lights were bright and right at in front of our place. Loved this place and its cleanness. My friends and I said we would stay here again.

We loved our stay at the Hvammstangi Hill Homes - it was quiet and the house very clean and cozy. We even saw the northern lights from the side of the house last night!

Lovely apartment with plenty of room and home amenities. The staff was very communicative with directions and contactless registration. Property was clean with beautiful views of the fjord.

Great family vacation stopover spot. Very clean. There’s a small utility room with a clothesline to dry your suit if coming from an outdoor hot spring visit. Know that most rentals in the area have hot spring hot water systems that will smell like well water, not something that can be helped to my knowledge. Just saying to point out it isn’t an issue to be concerned with. There is a pretty full kitchen as pictured and picnic table out front. The grocery store in town closes early and opens late, so get your provisions early if that’s your plan. There’s a great seafood restaurant next door if you miss the timing.The walk into town from the unit along a small waterfall stream and park was really pleasant and makes the area feel much more walkable. If you are planning on seal watching in the area, many of the roads are not paved as of June 2024, so plan on double the time your gps claims. Many of the spots are closed due to tourists scaring the seals away, so do some research first. If pointing out anything to improve, the unit’s bedroom has two twin bed frames that can spread apart some if using as a single bed. Many European flats have two twins as a single queen/full, but often with one big frame to keep them from drifting apart.

Cute Family Vacation Rental Spot- Recommended

A very cozy place to stay.  Cute town.  The house was very warm (good for cold summers, not so great for a summer night).  Wasn’t sure how to turn down the thermostat.   WiFi worked great.   Everything is explained in the handy-dandy notebook.  Bring your own coffee/tea/sugar for the morning.  The laundry at the local swimming pool charges 2500ISK for a load (?!?!).

We have stayed here before and it is a convenient location when driving to or from the north or west. Easy to access and the host gives good instructions.There are 2 induction rings and a microwave. Filter coffee machine but no coffee provided as is normal in Iceland. No oven. Grocery shop nearby. Swimming pool nearby. There are no boat trips to view seals anymore but the Seal Centre can give you a map of places to drive to. Cabin is comfortable, quiet, warm and has good blackout curtains. All was clean.Had two small hand towels provided which was only negative.

Awesome views! This place would be a 10 with the exception of the beds and the check in process. I had never received and email with instructions and had to call Hotels.com to contact property manager to get code for key to get in. The number associated with the property is incorrect! I would think after now reading other reviews that this would be fixed, but I guess not. With not receiving email also did not get wifi password. I had to knock on another persons door and ask them for password. This put us on edge seeing how when we arrived it was in the middle of a snow storm andwe really wanted to get out of our car and into the room. If these issues were corrected I would give this place a 12 on a scale of 10! The town was great and room was not far from essentials.

Nice View!

Google map provides inaccurate location which is the back hill of that property. We drove two rounds and couldn’t find the property until we stopped at where google maps tell us, then we climbed up the hills and found the property was located on another side of hill. There is a road that drive towards the property. We were also trying to reach the property with phone number provided by hotels.com but the number was wrong. We didn’t receive any email from this property directly for check in instruction as well. We called other nearby property then from them to get this property phone number. What a disappointment! I cannot imagine what if we arrive at midnight how we can find it

Google maps mistakes

These are brand new (as of 2021) homes in Hvammstangi. The host's communication was great and appreciated; GPS coordinates were provided which helped because the roads are not yet on Google maps. A great contactless vacation rental... keys are on-site and the pin code to unlock is sent ahead of time. Great for late night check ins. Heated bathroom floor was a nice touch. Bring your own coffee or expect to head to the gas station in the morning. Would definitely recommend.
