I booked this hotel for 2 nights in August 2023 . The hotel was over booked and did not have any room to provide .They offered a dingy cabin as they had no room to give. I had booked this hotel 2 months prior to my travel date.  They do not respond to your calls or emails. Very poor customer service and very unprofessional. Would not recommend at all.

Terrible experience!!

Do not book at this hotel. Like other reviewers have indicated this property is poorly run at best and a downright scam at worse. Booked a one-night stay here through Booking.com. The property immediately charged my credit card for the full amount (first red flag). I later canceled (well within the free cancelation period) after reading review on Tripadvisor. It's now been nearly three weeks of multiple emails and messages to the property to get my refund. There has been no response from Hotel Hella. Called Booking.com and they indicated that the property is under review for poor quality and non-response to customers. Booking.com has given them 5 days to respond to my request. If they do not respond, I'll file a dispute with my credit card company. If that doesn't work, it appears that Booking.com will issue the refund

Do not book at this hotel. No customer service and no refunds.

Notre plus mauvais souvenir d'Islande !
Alors oui, je lis que certains ont pu y dormir et y ont passé un bon séjour.
Comme beaucoup de personnes, voici ce qui nous est arrivé:
- en Mai 2023, réservation faite sur booking.com pour 2 chambres, 1 nuit en aout 2023. Payement débité quelques jours après la réservation (le seul hôtel a pratiqué ça au passage sur notre voyage en Islande)
- Fin Juillet, 3 jours avant notre nuit dans cet hôtel: nous recevons un email comme si tout était normal, indiquant qu'ils font du surbooking et que du coup, ils nous proposent 1 chambre (et non 2) à 30km de leur hotel dans le sens opposé ou nous devions aller. IMPOSSIBLE d'avoir le manager au téléphone; vous n'aurez que des saisonniers qui ne peuvent pas vous aider. Nous refusons cette offre; ils nous proposent d'annuler sur booking et qu'ils nous rembourseront.
- Fin de l'histoire, depuis cette annulation: aucun remboursement et ils ne répondent plus aux emails. Dossier en cours chez booking mais eux aussi font la sourde oreille et me demande toujours et toujours les mêmes informations. Eux aussi n'arrivent pas à les avoir.
- Résultats: perte de 350€ !

Cet hotel devrait être banni des sites de réservation; ceux sont des voleurs.

Our worst memory of Iceland!
So yes, I read that some people were able to sleep there and had a good stay.
Like many people, this is what happened to us:
- in May 2023, reservation made on booking.com for 2 rooms, 1 night in August 2023. Payment debited a few days after booking (the only hotel to do this on our trip to Iceland).
- At the end of July, 3 days before our night at this hotel: we received an email as if everything was normal, stating that they were overbooking and therefore offering us 1 room (and not 2) 30km from their hotel in the opposite direction to where we were supposed to go. IMPOSSIBLE to get the manager on the phone; all you get are seasonal workers who can't help you. We refuse this offer; they suggest we cancel on booking and that they will refund us.
- End of story, since this cancellation: no refund and they no longer reply to emails. I'm currently dealing with booking, but they too are turning a deaf ear and asking me again and again for the same information. They can't get it either.
- Result: loss of 350€!

This hotel should be banned from booking sites; they are thieves.


A fuir, cet hôtel est une arnaque et ceux sont des voleurs !

This is a non-nonsense basic hotel in a very convenient and peaceful location for exploring the Golden Circle. Good value and with friendly young staff, a comfy bed and clean room and bathroom, we were happy. Plenty of radiators and clean towels though no kettle. Hella is an unprepossessing little place but the hotel is bang next door to a petrol station, supermarket and café and offers free parking.  We had delicious brekkie in the local bakery each morning. The hotel won't win an architectural beauty prize and the views are non-existent but we had three peaceful, comfy nights here.  Forget dining around here and head for the next village where there's a fantastic roadside café where it's best to reserve. We didn't use the bar or breakfast facilities but all were functioning and lots of guests were present.

It is a scam!! I cancel their reservation and never gave money back! It’s been 3 months and booking is making me write letters from my bank to reimburse my money!! Don’t deal with this hotel ever!!They don’t answer emails or phone calls.

The worst! No communication ! It’s like they don’t exist

PLEASE DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS HOTEL!!!!! WE HAVE LIVED THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF OUR LIVES!!!!! We had a reservation at this hotel for more than two months, and the same morning of our reservation I receive a message from the hotel saying that due to overbooking they cannot accommodate me and they are moving me to another hotel in Reykjavik without having consulted with me. This disaster turned our idyllic vacation in Iceland into a nightmare as it screwed up our plans, we lost all our hotel reservations for the following days and the money for all the activities we had booked. Worst of all, we were not offered any solution or refund. We had to look for any hotel in the country that would host us at our own expense (much more expensive than this hotel) and without receiving any solution from the hotel staff. The worst thing is that I am still waiting for the money for the reservation and I don't think I will ever get it back. I wish there were no people like this who destroy people's dreams and plans without any remorse. I wish this hotel would have to close and be managed by responsible people.

From my personal experience: I do not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good level of accommodation 
Here were my concerns in no particular order: 
* no lifts in the building and so guests whatever their age or ability have to carry cases up a flight of stairs
* no telephones in any rooms so every guest has to walk to reception for each enquiry/ assistance needed
* there was no kettle or drinks in the room plus, The hotel’s bar was closed our entire stay, not even soft drinks could be purchased.
* bedding was limited to one pillow per bed
* no tv remote. And when one was provided the tv wasn’t working 
* Breakfast buffet was serviced by a young man in a tracksuit and no GF options available 
* On our last night: finally offered a new room, it was a better size but the tv in the new room also did not work!  And the wardrobe was an ikea carcass without any doors on the frame. the bedroom window was fully cracked from left to right which seemed unsafe  and the en-suite door lock would drop and lock without warning 
* the hotel is very tired and need of significant investment to bring it up to spec.  The range of food is restricted and not respectful of dietary requirements 
All this said, it was clean, there was hot running water and you felt safe on-site, there is a petrol station with burger bar next door. If you can get a room for a low price and just want to sleep over for one night this would be serviceable.

Hotel (misnomer!) more motel-cum-youth hostel

For 1 night it was tolerable. I would not stay here for more than 1 night as the bed was very uncomfortable and low to the ground. This is a very basic hotel and if the bed was comfortable, I could give 3 stars. They should invest in mattress pads for their worn mattresses or buy new mattresses.

We've just enjoyed a really enjoyable and comfortable stay over at Hotel Hella. The outside doesn't look particularly glamorous, but the inside offers a very warm from the lovely Welkie, who looked after our every need from the first moment to the last. 

The food was good, the beef was tasty, the shower in room was fantastic and we got a great nights sleep. I'm the morning breakfast was plentiful with lots on offer to cater for all travellers. Keep up the great work Welkie and Co!

Super basic, clean and is a no frills small place to sleep while on the road traveling Iceland. Breakfast next morning included and street/lot parking available. Front desk staff, all very helpful with our questions and requests and they made a call for us. Thank you!
