Dirty WC. TV did not work, no light bulb in hallway and in WC. Doors noisy and hard to close without waking up the people in the other rooms. I complained about the very dirty WC but a day later it still was dirty. Not pleasant stay sorry to say.

Not nice

I liked all about my stay there. I'd consider my standards pretty high and AkurInn just met all my expectations and even went beyond. The place is in a great location, the room and bathroom were very clean (including fresh towels every day), the staff was very friendly and more than helpful and the breakfast was yet a bit on the pricey side but very good and absolutely worth the money. There really is not a bad thing to say about AkurInn.
However, I think it would be very helpful if there were some hooks next to the sink in the room. Just so that you can actually hang a towel right next to the sink.

A very charming and cosy guesthouse, with a nice view from the terrace and from the room. Very clean and warm, the beds were comfortable. Close to the center. Easy check in, we received all the information we needed. 

Lovely 

I did not expect much really and I actually just needed a place to crash from 10 PM until 7 AM. The house is old-fashioned and charming, everything so clean and nice. I had a single room and it came with my own sink, tea kettle with option for tea and coffee. The shower on the top floor was not working properly, just a leak and it took forever to shower and rinse of the soap and shampoo, must have fixed it shortly after. My only real problem was figuring out how to lock the room (old style locks). You kind of had to lock from inside first and then close the door (better to remember the key then).
All in all, very lovely guesthouse and I will be sure to use that again next time a need a place to stay in Akureyri. :)

Great value for money

We are very satisfied about our stay at Akurinn! We stayed for one night and our bedrooms were comfortable, clean and neat! And we all slept very well! Second of all the breakfast which was included in the price was to recommend!!

Great deal for the price!

Too be honest, I am a bit confused by the comments here about AkurInn. We arrived there expecting the worst but found a really good guest house for a reasonable price. Check in was at Hotel Akureyri which is about a five minutes drive from the guest house, it was quick & easy. Staff was really friendly & told us that if we needed help, we could call them any time. The guest house is situated in the town centre close to the harbour & the small football stadium. Our room at the guest house was on the first floor right next to the main entrance. It had a pretty comfortable bed, a table, two chairs, a tv & a private bathroom all of which was very clean. Yes, it was probably not the most modern or high class furniture but it was suitable. The bathroom was rather spacious with a lot of space for our stuff. Since we had private bathroom, I cannot say anything about the shared bathrooms. Yes, we heard people coming in or leaving the house & yes, we heard people using the bathroom nextdoors, but it was not noisy & did not disturb us at all. We heard a ship's horn about twice & we heard some cars, but these are things you have to cope with if you want to stay in the centre of town. There were blinds at the window which were not very dark but worked okay. Breakfast was at the hotel, it offered a wide choice of bread, jam, meat, cheese, eggs, cake, fruit, vegetables, tea, coffee, juices, cereals, yogurt, skyr & milk. There even was a waffle maker. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at AkurInn & would recommend it to anyone looking for good value for money accomodation in Akkureyri.

really good value for money

Our experience in this establishment was a real nightmare! First, once we got to the hotel, we had to leave to go to another hotel to get our keys.... Chouette after a long day of driving... Then our room was very spartiate, the bathroom was room. There were traces of feces in the toilet and the smell of sewage coming from the sink. Otherwise the room was extremely poorly insulated, we could hear all the go-and-go of the hotel guests, the passages to the public toilets, located next to our room, all night long and the noise of the broken water chase, we also had strong iron in our eyes all night long!!!! Then the hotel also left us with a lot of iron in its mouth!!!!!!!! Then there were probably even holes in the rooms and so many other rooms in the hotel, so if you want to choose a hotel room, you can choose the quality of our guesthouse and the quality of our guesthouse, if you want to make sure that there is no more than 250 rooms in the hotel, then you can say that there is a good way to stay!!!

This is the worst place we've been on our road trip to Iceland in two weeks!

We had a night at the Akurinn. Thanks to a free upgrade, we even had a bathroom in the room and didn't have to share it. The rooms are very bright, but overall well equipped. We could park right in front of the house. The location is great because everything is well reached on foot.

It's a great guesthouse.

This guest house has a lovely old-fashioned charm and elegant feel. Very clean including the shared bathrooms. Tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and a lovely little communal hospitality area, with wine glasses, extra cups, free tea, coffee and milk, and all of the utensils you would need to eat a takeaway. Very comfortable beds and hanging space for clothes, drawers, shelving, bedside cabinets and TV. Nice little seating areas on each floor. Quiet but very convenient as just two minutes walk from the town centre. An excellent eat-all-you-want buffet breakfast was served at the lovely Hótel Akureyri (same owners), about 8 minutes walk away. There is also a nice bar at this hotel if you wanted to go out for a coffee or a drink in the evening. The staff at Hótel Akureyri were very welcoming and friendly, they could always be contacted if you had any questions or needed anything.

A comfortable stay in a lovely and elegant house

We stayed three nights in this guesthouse during our recent tour around Iceland. Previous to our arrival to this place, we had good experience with guesthouses in the country and so we were really shocked by the disservice we encountered there. The room seemed fine at the first look but then everything we touched was collapsing. The shared bathroom was tiny, dirty, smelly and also collapsing. The room was never cleaned despite they say "daily cleaning" in the webpage. There is no reception, no breakfast, no common place where to keep food or eat, no staff around to ask for help, and nobody answering the contact phone indicated in the booklet that we found with our name and room key (I tried to call several times). I think this guesthouse is a shame to the renown Icelandic hospitality.
