Hrafninn Guesthouse-NEW

In short notice, we needed an overnight stay in Aukereyri. We found Hrafninn as the Cheapest! place with available room with private bath at a price of 370 Euro.!!!  We ordered the room the same day we should stay overnight.  We got information of the location of the hostel. At arrival, there were no PIN code available for our room. Nobody in the reception. We called the telephone number that we found on the wall. A person said she will come and lock us in our room. After 10 minutes waiting, she arrived, and gave us our pin code. We asked if the price included breakfast?? First she said no, but after checking it, she told us that the room was included breakfast. She told us we had to walk approx. 10 min to another Hotel to get the breakfast next morning. 
The room was in the basement, and we had to walk down a pretty steep and narrow stair. The room was ok, with private bathroom. The sofa in the room was not good to sit on It was broken, and when we tried to sit on it, we almost sat on the floor! 
There was a TV, but no remotecontrol to turn on the TV!! Next morning we walked the 10 mins to the other hotel for breakfast. She sat in the reception, and we told here we are here for the breakfast.  THEN she told us, sorry, I was wrong yesterday, the room is NOT includet with breakfast. You have to pay an extra 40 Euro for the breakfast!!   All in All. For the price of 370 Euro, we expected higher Quality, and altso she could offer us breakfast when we had been walking 10 min to get the breakfast she told us was included in the price.  Room and service was way overpriced. First and last time we stayed here.

To check in, go first to Hotel Akureyri at Hafnarstræti 67. You'll receive your room number and any instructions there.

It was extremely frustrating to check in because Hrafninn has a reception desk with a sign, and our booking on Chase Travel (via Expedia) noted 24/7 reception. Hrafninn does not have a website of its own, so after exhaustive searching, we found one note from a reviewer online that we should go to the other hotel for check-in. The staff member was not receptive to my feedback, even when I tried to explain that all she needed was a small sign at the Hrafninn reception desk. Her defense was that she had been texting...my foreign phone number.

Anyway, once this was settled, the room was really nice, contrary to some other reviews here. Towels were provided and amenities were very comparable to other 3-star accommodations we had elsewhere in Iceland. The setting is a charming old manor, so yes, some things have aged but they are still maintained and usable. The only other sketchy bit was our chandelier was hanging by a thread.

Final note, there is NOT free parking onsite as advertised on Expedia. The city overall offers free parking from 6pm to 9am, and there is ample street parking, but you will need to pay during business hours.

Horrible check-in process but the place was nice

We had a corner room on the 2nd floor, more spacious than expected and very comfortable bedding. Warm and cosy bedroom. We really enjoyed our time there and had a good rest. Blackout curtains were also available which helps when the days are so long.
There was some noise coming from the adjacent rooms but people were generally quiet after hours so it was not a big problem.
Check-in instructions were provided so it was not a problem not having a host meet us. And if you need anything, you can always call the number they provided and get immediate assistance.

Comfortable room and bed for a good night's rest

This guesthouse offers superb accommodation for a good price. Centrally located. All local sights and amenities are within a few minutes walking distance. Highly recommended. Offers cooking facilities. Beds are supremely comfortable. Spotlessly clean.

There is not much to say except that I'd always stay there again. Lovely place, great and more than friendly and attentive people/staff, best location, yummy and healthy breakfast. Looking forward to coming back in May 😉.

Home away from home!

Stayed there for three nights during our trip. First a few things to be aware of. The guesthouse belongs to Akureyri hotel and does not have a reception, one needs to check in at the hotel which is a bit further down the road (a 5 Minute walk). Breakfast is also served at the hotel. 
The room was nicely decorated and had a decent size. The bathroom was ok but a bit small. The guesthouse also features a small kitchen for the use of the guests. Free parking is available behind the place. All in all a good place to stay.

Beautiful place right in the centre of town

We have stayed at Guesthouse Hrafninn for one night a day before yesterday. We had a sea/city view (really nice at night). To be honest -- I do not understand negative reviews on TripAdvisor. We rate our experience as 10/10 once considered the price you pay. It is still peak season in Iceland, and you are paying more or less of what you would pay for a crappy room through AirBnB... but you get much more:

-fantastic breakfast (small buffet but an excellent selection of muesli, tea, coffee, bread, waffles, buns, cold cuts, and dozens of things I have not mentioned).
-really clean rooms and bathrooms
-central location (~ 3 mins. walking to downtown)
-cozy atmosphere
-an experience to stay in one of the oldest buildings in Akureyri

Generally speaking, if you consider that it is a guesthouse (not a 4 or 5-star hotel), and that breakfast is so fantastic, I believe that rating this listing as 10/10 is very reasonable. Strongly recommended!

Great deal for the money!

Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The guesthouse is located right in the downtown area of Akureyri. Plenty of parking outside. The kitchenette had good, free coffee and was impeccably clean. Really enjoyed my stay.

Excellent location

I went there with my girlfriend just for a night..it'wonderful!!This guesthouse seems to be a flashback in '800,it is well detailed in every place,from the kitchen to the room passing through the common area and the little hall with the fireplace..every room is clean and quiet.you will remain completely astonished once you enter this magic guesthouse.It is located in the center close to the main shopping street but it is quiet and you can rest perfecly.

Wonderful

This guesthouse was lovely - the room was spacious with a comfy bed, tea/coffee making facilities and modern bathroom. 

There's a small kitchen on the ground floor which is fine for a couple or one person cooking, but not space for more than that so it can get very crowded very quickly.

The guesthouse is in a good location  close to the main touristy street and to the waterfront. Views out the window were onto another building so not anything spectacular. There's parking outside - the guesthouse provides a free parking pass in the check in folder you receive.

I would have given the guesthouse 5 stars except for the kitchen being too small and the check in procedure. You have to pick up keys at a hotel on the other side of town and there's nothing in the hotel when you arrive to say this. It's only communicated at the bottom of your confirmation email when you book - there should really be a sign or something in the guesthouse itself or have the info more prominently displayed in the booking process. We had read the email in advance and had seen it but there was another couple who hadn't seen the info and only after we explained what they had to do were they able to check in.

Also in the check in folder there's info about a mini bar and drinks/snacks available that doesn't seem to actually exist. We bumped into another guest looking for it so maybe just take out the page that mentions it?

Other than that it was great! Loved the slightly gothic decor in the main area downstairs.
