We've been here several times with family.

Pros:
- excellent location near the forest and view points
- nice and professional staff
- quality food, extensive menu (however a 'tourist centre' might well do with simpler foods
- always clean
- the building is a nice example of refurbishing old buildings
- the CAT

Cons
- 80's-90's-00's music on nearly all the time. Even worse, they have outdoor speakers attached to the building, 'Eye of the Tiger' blasting through the serene night
- waiting times in the restaurant can get very lenghty during peak periods

Attentive and kind staff, affordable and good food & astonishing design! Highly recommended!
    I am glad that other Hungarians left bad reviews, as it helps to keep this true gem hidden :D Though this great building and high quality service deserves better.

We booked a room quite late with my friend and make it worst missed the track in the hills during the day, so we arrived about 15 minutes after closing. Since we called them in advance to inform about being late, the staff was waiting for us. They were very kind and patient. The room is superb. It has everything what you can expect after a day hiking, clean, nice, tidy with very comfortable beds. Te best is:breakfast, fullextra scrambled eggs with very tasty bread. We really like it, so I booked a room immediatelly because I want to come back with my daughter :-)

Clean room, good bed, very nice environment. However the warm water runs out fast and the room was cold (-6°C was outside) and the staffs headcount quite low at the restaurant so expect lot of waiting but they were nice and did their best. I will revisit for sure.

Best Hiker accomodation in Hungary - Legjobb turista szallas az orszagban es a legjobb etel a kornyeken

Went there in November, travelled with a few friends for a hiking event. The place is well maintained, but  as it is a tourist center, the equipment is very plain and simple.

The room is just enough if you don't have too high expectations, as the beds are comfortable and the heating works very well.
The bathroom is a disaster, with the standing shower leaking everywhere... you'd think they could have a better solution for this, but instead they give you a mop and tell you to clean up after yourself.

Next time we will think better and listen to the reviews we could not believe...

Fair accommodation if you are a hiker or on a budget

If you want to spoil your vacation stay at this place. The stuff, including the manager, is extremely unprofessional. They have no idea how to treat guests to provide them pleasant experience. After a long day of hiking we came downstairs to have a dinner which was a part of half-board. We were disappointed to find out that there is only a small plate of soup and a dessert on the menu. We headed to the waitress with a kind request to cancel such a weird dinner (in fact, both meals were milk-based and one of us is allergic to diary products) and let us buy ourselves another substantial main course. To our surprise, the waitress failed to show any understanding instead handling us very aggressively. After half an hour of wrangling she was made to phone the manager. Meanwhile other guests joined to express their dissatisfaction too. Finally we were allowed to make another order, though already in a spoilt mood. We have waited for an hour to find out that three of our orders were not sent to the kitchen. The waitress didn't even make an attempt to apologize, but promised that the dinner will be for free as a compensation. So we decided not to move to another place. In half an hour we were informed that actually the kitchen had run out of any main courses, only soups were left. I could not believe my ears - seemingly the waitress was playing with us and taking revenge. After another argument the kitchen managed to find in stock 2 most expensive dishes. Two of our friends were celebrating their anniversary that night. Wasting 3 hours of our life in the kitchen of the Galyateto tourist center was the biggest present for them. In the morning we were outraged to see that we actually had to pay for all the awesome service we were rendered. No free dinner was found in the bill as promised. Furthermore there were additional items we never consumed and even a room we never booked. We dealt with the manager in the morning. There was a hope that at least he would settle the conflict and make all possible to smooth our terrible experience over. By no means. We faced extremely unprofessional attitude, were provided neither any apologies nor any discount for what had happened (oh, my bad - free coffee for the breakfast). I had even no chance to say a word since the manager rudely claimed speaking no English, though all signs and long 'set of rules' in every single room in the building are both in Hungarian and English (meaning the center is targeting foreign tourists as well). And I am not going to elaborate on absence of hot water, no shelves in the bathrooms, totally unequipped kitchen. It could have been such a great place if managed by the people aware of the hospitality industry basics. Sadly we left Matra with a bitter aftertaste. I don't recommend anyone staying at this place.
