The hotel has been vacant since the fall of 2015. The building has been razed to the ground in recent weeks. It no longer exists. A luxury hotel will be built on the same site from next year.

No more hotels

The hotel is very well located - right on the shore of the beautiful Lake Balaton and even the side view of the lake is enchanting. Breakfast - a Swedish table - is quite acceptable. Free parking under the windows. A grassed beach with slopes, entrance to the lake through bridges and further down the stairs, although the bottom is sandy and almost without algae. Perhaps this is where the virtues (mainly, the place itself) end.

A stale hotel in Balaton

The Via Hotelist is probably still from the socialist days, but the staff and the service make up for the slightly old building, the room was good, the facilities are old but adequate, the restaurant in the evening offers a well-maintained and affordable kitchen.

Simple but acceptable

The hotel is a stone's throw away from lake Balaton, of which is has a splendid view, provided you ask for the right type of room.
The staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was OK, pretty basic but really no complaints either. In front of the building they have their own beach, sun beds and paddle boat rental, all of which looked OK. The area was very quiet and tranquil.

Unpleasant aspects: spider webs - especially on the balcony  - and, annoyingly, lots of ants in the small hallway. Granted, they were mostly in the hallway/bathroom area, but still...
In addition to this, there was no drain in the bathroom and a bit of mold on the shower curtains.

Otherwise, the retro furnishings were not that bad, except for the bed which had a noticeable indentation and which made for less than restful sleep.

In any event, aside from these inconveniences, it was worth staying there since the great location meant a breathtaking view of the lake. If you don't mind a bit of shabbiness here and there, it is not that bad. Together with the view, worth it.
If you don't care about the view, then forget about it, seek accommodations elsewhere.

Shabby interior, magnificent view

The dirty years, we didn't find a single thing that wasn't critical, a real shame because the location is really good, we ran away after a night on some kind of bed covering ourselves with our beach saunas, experience to avoid.

Horrible.

We found this hotel on the search engines with positive reviews. The high price but understandable being mid-August on Lake Balaton. From the outside we immediately noticed the structure of the 70s and 80s but inside there was also a bad smell. When we got to the room we almost vomited out...the old-fashioned furniture, all dusty, the heating pipes in sight that they must have lost water because there were several stains of moisture.

I was given a room with a connecting private sitting/TV room on the 4th floor so you have lots of space (ie 2 rooms, both with balcony). I paid about 33 euros for this ensuite room with breakfast included. Although the room interior looks terribly dated and old, the view from the large balcony is fantastic! At this price, I doubt if you can find another hotel that offers you such a fabulous view.

Breakfast is adequate though not fantastic. Service is pretty good - though not all staff speak English, I find them friendly and ever ready to help. It seems like lake-facing hotels have the problem of insects flying into the rooms after dark if you keep your windows open. It can be a little unnerving but apparently, the other more expensive lakeside hotels nearby face the same problem too so I can't complain much about this. I just treat it as something you live with for staying in a natural setting - in any case, the few insects I encountered aren't pests like cockcroaches or filthy flies so I wasn't too disturbed by this : )

On the whole, for the price I paid, I think this hotel is acceptable and the beautiful lake view from the balcony is simply unforgettable and makes up for its shortcomings.

Terrific lakeview at an affordable price!

If you don't mind an old-fashioned & basic, then this is a perfect cheap hotel. Basic rooms, basic breakfast.
