Hotel Cafe Cibreo

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights following a 10-day trip through Honduras (including Roatan).  Cafe Cibreo is well-situated, safe, clean, and charming.  It offers a delicious breakfast and really nice service.  I wish we could find a B&B like this one on all our vacations around the world.  Most importantly, it is very reasonably priced.  We recommend it to families and couples.

Tegucigalpa can be an intimidating city for a woman traveling alone but from the moment I stepped into the charming cafe/lobby of hotel Cibreo I felt nothing but good vibes. For $50 a night I was delighted with my spacious, airy, light and ultra-clean room with ensuite bathroom. Every day there was plentiful hot water.  Bed was comfortable and the neighborhood very quiet at night.  Delicious cooked-to-rder breakfast included in the rate and served in a charming courtyard dining room.    The house-made brioche was amazing.  The in-house restaurant serves wonderful food so there's no need to go out at night but the hotel is in a great neighborhood with plentiful restaurants and cafes within walking distance.   Super professional and friendly staff.  All seem to go the extra mile to give good service.  Once when I asked for directions to a supermarket (I wanted some drinks and snacks for the room) one of the staff immediately changed from his chef jacket and without question or hesitation offered to guide me.  He escorted me on the 10 minute walk, waited while I shopped, and walked back with me. Can't say enough good things.  Will definitely stay here on my next visit to Tegus.

I've been over most of Central America, and absolutely adore the countries, culture, and peoples (even Belize City, which is an acquired taste). I really, really didn't like Tegucigalpa at all - it has a very nasty vibe to it, not just a bad reputation. The journey in was particularly bad: late at night, non-working ATMs, violence after a football match - it was just a bad, bad, bad experience.

Which is why i enjoyed Cafe Cibreo so much. It felt like taking a breath of relief. Apparently it's recommended by the US Embassy. It feels slightly small, but it's got game. And some depth.

Palmira is a "safe" part of a city that you pretty much can't walk around in at night, and Cibreo feels very up-market opposite what looks like a 5* hotel (200L/$10 to/from Ticabus, but the traffic is very bad so budget an hour for a 15min journey). The outside is modest, but the sidewalk area it's in is clean, attractive, and gated for security. The lobby is a strange mix of rustic and modern, but it's appealing and has a calmness that's slightly intoxicating.

The staff themselves are helpful, friendly, and highly professional, and you can sense the effort put into the food as it's absolutely first class. The breakfast dining room downstairs is fantastically First-World. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a lot of character: clean, nicely designed, and great value for money. The wifi's a bit on and off, but it's trivial.

If someone absolutely forced me to go back to Tegucigalpa (and you'd have to, with a gun against my head), this is definitely where i'd stay, and where i'd recommend anyone else on a mid-range budget to stay. Although i think i'd confine myself in the gated lobby in the evenings to soak up the place with a cerveza rather than deal with the potential malevolence downtown.

Gorgeous staff lady! Also, even if i was blurry eyed, one of the most beautiful, classy women i have ever seen walked right through reception in the morning, so as far as i'm concerned - tongue in cheek -, these things constitute a good omen for such a great little metropolitan oasis. I just wish it was in another city, although perhaps it needs to be where it is.

Absolutely top choice!

Top marks for service, location, cleanliness, value and charm

A safe, attractive, convenient haven in the midst of chaos

The good things about our stay here were:
- The room was spacious, clean and looked very pretty.
- The bathroom was very well stocked with towels and a bar of soap (as well as a bidet for those who appreciate a deep cleansing).
- Wifi and AC worked perfectly.
- The location was very convenient since there were bars and restaurants nearby and it was safe to walk around.

The bad things about our stay here were:
- Despite making a reservation beforehand, when we arrived they gave us a different price for the room. The owner did not even apologize and simply said that since it was a room and breakfast for two people that the price must be a bit higher.
- The staff seemed a little disorganized and poorly trained in customer service.
- Breakfast was bad. We ordered a typical dish (beans, eggs, fried plantain, cheese, sour cream and tortillas) and it didn't taste good.

In conclusion I would say that it is an okay hotel but a little overpriced.

Nice enough

My friend and I have turned up tonight to be advised they do not have details of our booking despite us having a booking reference and having paid a 10% deposit. Do not stay here go next door to the lovel and very helpful Real Colonial Hotel!
