We have stayed here several times over the past few years and look forward to our time here. The hotel is always clean and comfortable with excellent accommodations for small groups or families. The hotel staff is exceptional, especially the hotel manager, Lilian. She is very attentive and always willing to help assist with travel plans or suggestions. Last year when we stayed here, our friend’s daughter had to have an emergency appendectomy. Lilian helped us find someone who was available to help us in the middle of the night and checked on us periodically. We will never forget her and her staff for their caring and concern for our well being. The hotel grounds are well maintained with a nice lounging area and small wading pool, which is very refreshing after a long day of hiking in the jungle. They also have great on-site food choices. It is private and secluded, but still close to downtown and the airport. You will not be disappointed with a stay at Casa Hunahpu. 

Hidden Gem in Peten

I wonder how many travelers never venture to the rooftop vista with its wonderful hammocks, refreshing breeze, lake vista, and tables. Having walked around Flores, I really wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. You CAN walk to the airport, or the bus station or Flores -- or take a taxi. Many of the Tikal tour operators will pick you up directly at Hunahpu. The rooms are spacious suites really, with a backyard area, and you could easily make your own meals en suite, or venture out to great local restaurants like Totoy's. Best of all is the wonderful staff -- Winston and Jose and Felice. Also, for women traveling alone, this is a safe retreat.

Outstanding Staff, Buen Retiro

We stayed in 6 hotels all over Guatemala and although not the nicest hotel we stayed at the customer service was outstanding!! The small pool is super nice! It gets incredibly hot on Flores! The rooms were clean and the AC was great. They also come with a kitchen that we did not know about. Great views from the top where you can also lounge in a hammock. Was a gentleman working the restaurant/bar that was absolutely the hardest working server I have ever seen! Great place to stay if you want to see Tikal. Thanks for the fantastic hospitality *****

Great Service 

While Hotel Casa Hunahpu may seem a little out of the way if you want to spend your time in Flores, the grounds were incredibly nice, as was our room.  The pool was a little smaller than we had imagined, but I think we were the only people to use it during our stay so that was never a problem.  We arrived on the bus from Guatemala City at 8am and, even though check-in wasn't until 3pm, they took us right to our room, which was perfect. We had two beds, a kitchen, and a welcome drink upon arrival - and sweet, blessed air conditioning.  Any time we went into town, we were able to walk without problem, and never got the impression that the area was any more or less dangerous than anywhere else (as some other reviewers mention).  Bonus: when we left Flores, we were able to walk from the hotel to the airport.  It was within walking distance of everything.  I would definitely stay here again, as we didn't even get around to trying out the terrace above the rooms with the hammocks.

Very nice spot on the lake

I had a give and take with the owner so I will list everything in a pros and cons list.

Cons: didn't realize neighborhood is rough at night. I was warned not to go walking by staff and locals. Cab driver bait and switched Me for 10 q more than quoted.

Pro:they proactively picked me up at the airport.

Con: take forever to respond. I asked them questions online back in Oct and never got an answer. Asked this month and the same thing happened. I finally called them out on the lack of professionalism and then they replied. She then tried to charge me 30 usd more a night because they had me down for one person. What bothered me about this is that they did not get back to me until the day after I could no longer cancel for free. We argued on the phone. They upgrade me to another room and charged me 80 used to for 2 nights.

When I got to Flores we got in another argument because I thought this was not fair. She then opened up her website and showed me how even though the room fits up to 3 it is not included. And for every person that joins you, they charge you the whole room night. The hostess said that she is trying this as a new business model because she knows that she has compared to the places on the island, and she can do it that way.

Pros: service, grounds.
No complaints here  great staff. Was comped free meals for my trouble. 

Overall it would have been a perfect experience with the exception of those 2 problems. Would have loved to be in a place closer to the island and safe to walk around in. 



Lots of  unexpected surprises. Extra guest pay full night fee

This is a small and very cozy hotel located by the lake Peten Itza. The rooms are like 2-bedroom apartment with a living room and kitchen. My room was very clean and had a nice cooling AC. The kitchen has got all I needed to make nice meals every day. There are a small swimming pool, which was really a treat to use after a long day of excursions to different places in the area. Also, the roof terrace offered a gorgeous view over the lake and the Flores island. The staff are very kind and helped me to book transport to Tikal, plus all the little advises I got during my 3-night stay. The welcome drink was unforgettably good at the check-in after my long bus ride from Belize City.
