This B&B is located about a ten to fifteen minute walk from the central park in a quiet residential neighborhood.  The area is very clean and felt safe.  I asked the owner if it was safe to walk there at night and she said "before 9 PM."  The one night I stayed out 'til nine, I took a taxi back from the central park and it cost just 25 quetzales without tip, about $3.35 US.  The Casa is a classic colonial building with beautiful furnishings and art work.  The bed was comfortable & warm, the water hot with good pressure, the wifi was good, and so was the included breakfast (3 options).  The common area for relaxing/dining is full of plants and their huge Doberman, Capitan, is friendly and makes one feel secure there!

Lovely bed and breakfast in a quiet neighborhoood

i didn’t really know what to expect from Xela when i was visiting, my first hotel was a bit of a let down, and getting to casa san bartolome, i was a little wary, it being just a couple streets out of the “central” area, but that said, this hotel is seriously so beautiful, and the staff was so welcoming and kind and friendly. 

they made breakfast fresh, in front of me, for me as i sat down. I had a list with 3 different breakfast options too, so nice!

The manager/owner was the one who greeted me when i walked up to the hotel and showed me to my room and made sure i had everything i needed. 

I can’t talk this place up enough really, the room itself was beautiful, just spacious enough to feel luxurious and it had some of the most beautiful artwork i have seen in a hotel room yet. 

I can say this with confidence: i will only be staying at casa san bartolome if i’m in Xela. 

the lobby / hallway area is decked with TONS of beautiful plants and flowers, and there is even a SWING. that you can swing on. that works. and i know saying there’s a swing probably sounds weird but seriously, i can’t even explain it, but sitting down on it and just, swaying a little after the day was possibly the best thing ever. and i didn’t even know i needed that.

anyway like i said, my stay here basically solidified me only ever staying here in the future, i loved it that much. and i was only there for one night too. 

thanks again to anyone from san bartolome who will be reading this. I have nothing but good things to say about you and will be passing the word along. 

oh and another thing, they have they absolute cutest and biggest good boi ever, el capitaine, a gray great dane. kind of the icing on the cake for me, i miss his cute face.

A Beautiful Stay

Quetzaltenango is a fascinating city and the Casa San Bartolome is a nice place to stay while you are here. The rooms are a good size and beds are ok and for the price. The owner is lovely and she made sure we had what we needed including the use of the house's main kitchen. The location is good, about 8 blocks from the Zocalo in a really charming residential area. I highly recommend an early morning walk through the city to catch it when it's waking up and before the streets get too busy. It's a fantastic way to see the beautiful architecture and the early morning light in the highlands makes for some really dreamy photos. You'll receive a warm welcome when you arrive here and considering the lack of midrange and boutique hotels in this area, Casa San Bartolome is a comfy base in Guatemala's second largest city.

Nice, Quiet Place

Nice garden, comfortable room and a hot shower, we got what we were looking for and more, as breakfast was included and it was lovely. However, it is not right in the center. So if you want something right by the park, that is not the one. But for us, it is not a problem as we know the area quite well and it is nice to walk around.

Beautiful hotel and nice breakfast

This place was outstanding! The room was beautifully and individually decorated with the most beautiful furniture, paintings and bedding from the region. The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. The shower was hot with good water pressure. everything was immaculately clean. The wifi was good. The casa is off the street and was very quiet at night so we slept very well. the other facilities were great too. There are a number of places to sit and relax: the reception area has leaflets and magazines and a free water cooler; the terrace upstairs has chairs and views. The included breakfast is great- we had scrambled eggs and bread and delicious coffee! The staff are friendly, helpful and responsive. We were also able to park our car here too-securely and off the road (we are 2.5 metres high and just fitted). What a gem of a place!
