It was good, but when we wanted to sleep, there was a bar next to the hotel. The bar was really loud, so it was not good. Othervice you can pick a room with nice view, but don’t be surprised, when you saw at the morning in the lake doldiers😅

Just for a 2-night stay actually just for the purpose of visiting Tikal at not too far away (just an hour or so on a tour minibus), this place though is one that I wouldn't have minded to stay longer for a "fairly-good-sized" room which came with an ensuite & a nice flat-screen (and all for the "quite reasonable" rate of about 25 US$ a night).  And for convenience nearby are a restaurant & a small grocery store (both shortly to the right after coming out of here but the grocery store at across the street) although yes I found "cheaper & more-filling" food which is not too close to this place but at just about a 10-minute walk which is the area around "the bridge to Santa Elena" (where there are not many but like a short row of restaurants with also outdoor tables & chairs).

And with this town actually being a "small island" in a pretty-sizeable lake (quite as far as eyes can see in "some directions"), I walked around pretty much the entire perimeter of the island and did get to enjoy the "sunset view" which is from like the designated area for swimming in the lake (where I saw a number of people in the water although not entering myself due to that area being at "some distance" from this place).  And also, quite a pleasant thing to do is just wandering around the town along its narrow streets lined with "quaint & colorful" mostly-one-and-two-storied buildings for really a "beautiful multi-colored" appearance of each street and yes the town as a whole (which is on a smaller scale than Cartagena in Colombia but quite on the same scale as Granada in Nicaragua & Antigua right in this country, all 3 of those similarly beautiful towns visited prior to this one).

If going to Tikal in the early morning, the tour minibus is at about 8 am from the area around the bridge & the 'Yo (heart) Peten' sign, and also right from that area are buses to the Belize border town of Melchor de Mencos (but for a cheaper price is by taking a "collectivo minivan" from the Santa Elena bus terminal just across the bridge).

Nice enough for a "longer stay" :)

This hostel is in the centre, close to most amenities and only one block away from the main square. We had a group room with a private toilet with a view to the lake, all very cute.
We all got a soap bar and a little shampoo bag, and there is free drinking water, tea and coffe. We could store a bit of food in a tiny refrigerator they have.
We liked that there was one more toilet, outside the room, for common use. Staff members were really nice and helpful.
On the bad side, the matresses were not very comfortable and the toilet looked a bit shabby.
There were fans on the ceiling, but not air-conditioner, so some mosquitos bit us during the night.

Very good value for a cheap price

It is a cheap place do not expect a lot. The room is really clean and the care for it. There is extra charge if you want to use the AC but the fan on the ceiling will do, at least on my room.
Some of the staff will help to know the city others have not idea about what you are asking.
They don't accept credit cards which I find unbelievable in a touristic place like Flores. That is my biggest complain. Other wise I will stay here again, is good price, good views, nice people.
And if you ask they will arrange a really good tour around the lake in a boat, it is really good if you have time to do it, ask them.

Fair enough 

No service at all here, staff doesnt really care about you, doesnt feel nice. Ugly room, and the fan is terrible. I got electrocuted by shower, when trying to change tempatuere. Also No help when i asked for another fan or at least the remote to ac which was in room but off, as I couldnt sleep from the heat, as the fan was too powerless. Would not reccomend..

I'm so disappointed in this Hotel, the owner woman was so rude when a friend of mine waited outside my room, then she turned off my A/C, also the breaker of the shower's heater was exposed near the shower with a lot of cables. Honestly, if you can choose a different hotel will be good for you.

I don’t usually leave bad reviews. But this place deserves one.
Where do I start . We booked for New Years at the hotel only to arrive and the price has doubled.
Reluctantly we still accepted as the island of Flores was booked solid and there was no other vacancies.
The room sucked and looked nothing like the pictures
Here is the actual pictures::

1. Crazy mould had us coughing and eyes burning all night.
2. Parts of the ceiling were coming down on us ( see photos)
3. Water pressure sucked
4.. Place was filthy ( see pictures)
5. Bed bugs in the mattress we’re so bad that at about 4 am eventually we could not handle it and just left as we couldn’t sleep. We ended up staying in another hotel off the island in St Elena

When I went to the front desk the girl just said she did t know the room was moldy and had bed bugs.
My point was how can u NOT know when the wall is wet and the plaster is falling.?

No refund, no rebate, no solution offered.
Just a dumbfounded look.

RIP OFF MOULDY ROOM WITH BED BUGS

We booked a room at La Posada de Don Jose on Booking dot com. 

The room we booked was for 2 twin beds and 1 double bed. When we arrived we were given a room with 3 twin beds. 

We asked the staff for the room we booked but they said it wasn’t available.  

It was late and we didn’t have the time or energy to find something else in town so we reluctantly stayed in the 3 twin room. 

The room we ended up in was hot, stuffy, dark and very basic. Luckily the AC worked fairly well and the room cooled down enough for us to sleep. The room is right by the reception and there were many guests who walked past talking and making noise that kept us up. 

The staff were not very helpful or accommodating. I am very disappointed with how our situation was handled.
