Tzanjuyú Bay

Old hotel that in its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s would have been incredible. It has seen better days. But the lake-facing rooms have some large decks and INCREDIBLE views. It's a short walk out of town which is a good and bad thing. Very quiet location away from the hustle and bustle, but it does require a walk. Pool was OK, not great. Rooms were big, but beds were not the most comfortable. We got a good price during a busy season, and were happy with our stay.

Great views from a once-grand hotel

Arriving to this hotel after 11 hours of buses in Honduras & Guatemala ,I was pleased to find this Lonely Planet-recommended spot.$5.00 a night for a shared bathroom,cold shower tiny room kind of place but it was clean .The manager was friendly ...& the views from upstairs & the roof of Lake Atitlan were 3 star at least!There was a great restaurant next door & it was only 2 blocks from the Central church/plaza.Great little shoestring lodging.

Basic but excellent location & price

This hotel does not deserve to be on any international travel site as NONE of the staff understand, let alone speak, a word of English. We barely got by using a combination of miming, my son’s halting Spanish and Google searches for assorted articles.
The rooms are tiny and barely fit a full size bed. So we ended up getting 3 individual rooms for 3 people. The rooms have neither air-conditioning nor fans for air circulation. After much badgering we were able to get 2 small pedestal fans for two of the rooms. However when I asked for a hairdryer I drew a blank. The hotel does not even have a proper lobby with one end of a long patio being fitted with a reception desk. It is very dimly lit in the evenings and the Wi-Fi is virtually non-existent. The cement floors are cracked and the bed linen ranges from threadbare to tattered. The rooms have a variety of blinds and some barely even provide privacy with blackout being a totally alien concept (see attached photo).
We walked out of breakfast the first morning when we were told they had no juice just tea or coffee but for the next two days they gave us orange juice at an extra charge. Although the location is truly spectacular all the negatives listed above and more, made our stay quite memorable for the wrong reasons.

Fabulous location and crap hotel.

I traveled from Maine to Guatemala in a 40" class A motorhome. This place was listed in several guide books as having "big rig" facilities.  On arrival, one of the gates had to be dug out of the ground to make the "camp ground" acessable.  The electric (15 amps in theory) electrified the body of my motorhome and I had to reverse my electric connection. The water pressure took 2 hours to fill my 100 gallon tank. To reach the septic (a hole on the ground) it was necesssary to relocate the motor home.  The trash was picked up on average of every other week after local dogs has spread it all over the area. The grounds (DON'T expect pads) have many ankle busting holes.  No one speaks a word of English. All this for US$780.00 a month!

Do not stay here with a motor home

First off this the location of this hotel is inconvenient. It is not located on the main strip but on the main road that only has a gas station. You have to take a tuk-tuk (a motorcylce taxi) to the main strip. There are many places on the main strip that have a better for a better price. 

The rooms were pretty bare which would be understandable if the price was lower. They hadn't even stocked the room with the basic amenities. It took me numerous calls to get towels. The "hot" water was at best warm.

The woman at the front desk who was either the owner or manager was extremely rude and unhelpful. When I arrived there had been an issue with my reservation. They tried to change the price of the room. I told them I had already paid with my credit card on the site and would not pay more for the room. After arguing for a few minutes finally they decided to let me stay for the advertised price that I had booked my room with. In Guatemala there is a 22% hospitality and tourist charge. Again they tried to hike the price up saying it was 27% percent. 

The next morning they were horribly rude and would not even get me a cup of coffee and refused to serve me breakfast. 

I've been to Panajachel many times and there are far better places to stay with friendlier staff, cleaner rooms, better location, and even better prices. Although this hotel may seem to be fairly cheap for those coming from the US and the UK you can get a lot more for the same price.

Horrible Service and Dishonest Staff

Hotel tzanjuyu bay is the worse place ever and not on the main tourist site (you have to take a taxi ). I arrived at the hotel super late in the evening and when I got there they demanded q575.00.So before embarking on my Panajachel journey I did my research and booked online. I pick places based on safety, location, reviews and aesthetics. Anyways when I arrived with my online booking confirmation the people at the hotel said I had booked for to little money. I ended up paying q445.30 instead of the original q365 I had booked it. The owner was very rude and dismissive. If you put a price online you should obey by it. 

They also said that the " credit card machine " was not working so I had to pay in cash. I am very very disappointed at the level of customer service here. Generally speaking I ve been having a very pleasant experience in Guatemala but the treatment at this hotel is not acceptable especially for tourist. Another reason why I booked this hotel was because it included breakfast. They refuse to give me breakfast even a cup of coffee. The whole experience at this hotel was frustrating and a nightmare.

I ended up staying the second night at a hotel on San Pedro Laguna. Amazing!. Funny because I use to think the more you paid the better the quality and how I learned over the weekend that it is not always the case. I paid twice as much for Hotel tzanjuyu bay and my experience there was miserable.

Worse place ever

Far from center of the village (need a taxi).  The room was dirty and neglated.  Bad maintenance was felt all over.  Horrible breakfast.  The Staff was not helpful.   
 The only advantage is the view to the beautiful lake.
