I stayed in cave suite #105 and was extremely happy with it! It captured perfectly for me what I came to Santorini for - stunning sea views, the caldera, beautiful sunsets and white terraces. The cave suite is right in the middle of these white terraces. Oia Castle isn’t far away at all if you’d prefer to admire the sunset from there (the most popular spot on the island to do so). 

Cave suite #105 had a good balcony from which to admire the charming sunsets and wifi worked wonderfully well. There was a kettle provided (not always the case in Greece hotels) and there was a separate living room to the sleeping area. 

There were lots of steps (some steep and narrow) to get to and from where the shops are so be prepared to climb steps. This wouldn’t be suitable for individuals who have mobility difficulties. If you’re worried about how to get your luggage to and from the cave suite, not to worry as a porter is available to help with your luggage. Please tip the porter generously, it’s not easy at all what he has to do for hotel guests. I am full of admiration for his ability to simply lift my 23kg suitcase on his shoulders and make it look light when I have trouble just lugging it along cobblestone floors!

Overall, what a refreshing retreat this was! I was a little apprehensive at first staying in a cave suite as a solo female traveller as this isn’t a typical hotel with rooms concentrated in a building, but this place is perfectly safe and beautiful, I highly recommend it!

Essence of Santorini 

This is one of the more affordable places to stay in Oia that locates on cliff. Upon booking, we received a confirmation instructing us to check in at the visitor center by the bus terminal in Oia. 

Check in process was fairly quick. We check-in early(~11am), and since the room was ready, they gave us the room key. Porter service(no fee set, but we tipped the person) was provided to carry our luggage to our place, and also to led us to our place, as their hotel and rooms were not labeled nor had any sign, you won't be able to find them on your own.

Room was very spacious, one or two light(bulbs) were broken in the room so some areas were a bit darker. Safe box didn't work in our room(locked). No breakfast provided at this place as we had known ahead of time. If you are not a fan of going up and down a lot of stairs, this might not be a good place for you. For our room, there were 2 ways to get to there. One was to go through the small/tiny staircase by the massage place(shorter-ish), or go through the main big staircases down to the port. 

View from the room was great! But considering the stairs you have to walk down, we may or may not stay here again next time if we re-visit. But overall, if you want a cave house in an affordable price, this is a good place to go!

Be ready to climb stairs! Great view!!

Going to a santorini seems to me to be incomplete without such a view in the accommodations.The rooms are generally spacious and dining (we were in SUITE) but with some cleaning and maintenance details that are otherwise very demanding nothing happens.LA TV didn't work but everything else is amazing.It has a kind of private terrace with a table and 2 chairs to take breakfast outside or in the afternoon.It is true that check-in is done at the tourist office but you are served without any problem and you are taken to the room with the suitcases.

It's really worth the trouble for the views, Increable!

Nice cave bungalow rooms with terraces facing the most spectacular Sunset View.  Nice modern "Greek" bathroom and amenities like refrigerator and TV.  Though, who's going to come to Santorini to watch TV.  Close to the Donkey steps that go down to the Amoudi Bay Port, full of restaurants for lunch or dinner.
Only draw back is that there is no Front Desk at the property, if you have questions or issues, you have to go to the office at the Bus Stop.  Also, the climb down to the rooms requires good balance.  So I would not recommend these rooms for elderly travelers or those that have a walking impediment.  For the young and nimble, these rooms are fine.

Spectacular View

So no better place to feel romantic than in Greece, and now that we have discovered the tiny and beautifulOia, we will never look elsewhere.
Our hotel left us speechless, its so stunning, the vies are so spectacular, the service so elegant, its just unreal. We did a research and booked the cave-like suite. FANTASTIC!!!

A romantic holiday

We had a little cave on the cliff with a hot tub inside and first of all I was disappointed because I wanted the outside hot tub cave but I’m actually happy we got this now as that cave didn’t look like they had much room to sunbathe on the terrace where as we had the best of both worlds, even if there was a storm. The only issue we had was the internet cut out but they fixed it after a day or two, I would also recommend taking some plastic/paper plates and cutlery because for self catering they only have some cups to have tea, with a kettle and a fridge. I will say the views were out of this world even if it was a few steps down to it! The cleaning/porter staff were very sweet and friendly. Even left roses and a card in my room for my birthday (with the help of my partner emailing) - you must go Atleast once. I have attached the view inside and outside of our cave.

Outstanding views!

Had a nice stay in Oct and was lucky my experience in room 108 wasn’t as bad as some earlier reviews. I advise doing more research before booking as there are so many other options available. My stay in Oia came after a terrible cave suite experience in Fira so I was grateful.

There are 2 locations for VIP Suites on different cliff facing. Didn’t know till I arrived. This is the one with west sun / sunset. Other one has sunrise I believe. 

There are A LOT of steps. To be expected since you are living on cliffside and near the middle of the cliff. Need to be fit. 

Location wise, it’s near the castle and Amoudi Bay but Oia is small so everywhere is ok. 

Would have given higher rating if not for my find before we checked out. There was a red tick on the bed which we killed and left small blood stains were on the sheet. Lucky we didn’t see it earlier. Upon checking out, it was a different staff from earlier 2 days who didn’t seem to care how the stay was so we didn’t feedback on the tick nor powerpoint/ lights that were not working. 

Overall, I’m glad I got to experience a cave suite but I’ll stick to modern hotels in future. The dampness of caves and lack of sunlight makes it less sanitary. 

Pros:
- Catch subset in your balcony (private area). 
- Porter helps with luggage both ways. Make sure you arrive & leave when the porter is working (service is not 24/7). I had a small bag and yet appreciated this. 
- You get an Oia map (else the tourism office does not distribute, as they have a sign telling you to explore on your own). Not essential but it helps. 
- Daily cleaning & change of towels (it’s damp in caves so you need this). 

Cons:
- You don’t know which suite you’ll get till you arrive. My suite had the smallest balcony for viewing sunset. 
- You get the evening sun. No morning sun. 
- No reception to get assistance. You are on your own. For help to book transport, go to check-in desk, which is the tourism office staff. 
- No place to hang towels! Only 4 hangers given. A problem if you shower more than once a day. 
- Double bed is really 2 single beds that they put a sheet over. 
- Light outside the suite wasn’t working (and kitchen light & 1 powerpoint near the extra bed). 
- Occasionally there is a foul sour smell. Don’t know what it is but airing the place helped.

Better options available

Had a lovely four night stay here at VIP suites. We had a bags taken down for us by an amazing porter and were blown away by the view and location! Definitely worth the extra $$. There were no communal pools or facilities but we did know that prior to booking. Had a 10/10 view of the sunset - like absolutely magical! Yes there are a lot of stairs but it’s Oia, there are going to be stairs !! The room was tidy with cleaning undertaken daily. The room had a lovely comfortable king bed with aircon, a fridge and a decent bathroom. Would definitely recommend a stay here, especially if you value the sunset! 

Excellent view

Just back from a weeks stay in suite 108. Overall had an amazing holiday, firstly I’d like to point out that our view was unbelievable, and that was the main factor for us, so we were very grateful for the amazing sunset views every night of the holiday. 

This place has no facilities such as restaurants, bars, communal pool etc which we were aware of before staying, so it didn’t bother us but good to make people aware. There are so so many amazing restaurants within walking distance.

Firstly when we arrived at the tourist office to check in, a porter escorted us to our room which was a 15 min walk away and he kindly carried our suitcase for us. The staff were great. Room appeared to be great, however after our first nights sleep, we woke up in the morning to a foul damp sour smell, wet bedsheets and wet walls. The room was so so damp. We went to the office and they were ever so apologetic and got a maintenance man down straight away to fix the issue which was in the air conditioning. He also painted over some mould on the walls and a cleaner came to replace the bedding. We gave the place the benefit of the doubt, and rightly so, every night after this was great, no more issues with damp after the aircon had been fixed - so thank you to staff for your speedy attendance!  

Yes - as according to other reviews there are a lot of steps down to the room / up to the town centre, so if you are disabled or have small children then this place is probably off the cards for you. Great for couples and friends. 

The cleaners were great, did a good job every day. Porters were also excellent and all staff in office were very helpful. 

Overall I’d say the room was a 3 star.. not amazing but not the best, a few teething problems - but perfect for a bed to sleep in. We loved our stay and would return, we would probably opt for a pool next time though.

This place is worth it for the view alone. Beautiful. 

Room 108

I read the comments before booking this suite and I am glad i did. First of all, yes, there’s A LOT of walking involved and all of us (including the kiddos) prepared for it and tolerated it. We were welcomed with the guy and the lady in the office and we were assisted by our porter who carried our 2 huge luggage on his own 😲💪🏼. When he needs a lil rest, he’ll give us lots of info about Oia (so he’s a great guide too). Then when we arrived at our room (#112).. the view is BREATHTAKING (gave me chills!) caldera view, picture-perfect... and it was about 2 hrs before sunset when we got there so the timing was perfect. We didn’t expect a big room, but omg, it’s perfect! Just how i like it! Traditional, cave-like room with everything functioning well (wifi, A/c, tv). Speaking of sunset, so on our 1st night as we’re watching the sun about to set,  we realized we couldn’t see the whole thing, so me and my daughter went down the steps more, and all of a sudden, the guy (who i’m not sure if he’s the owner or manager of another hotel to the left/bottom of us, talked to us rudely, and asked if we are from VIP suites and we need to leave their property.. so he kicked us out so as the couple that was there watching the sunset too). I didn’t know that they own the outside stairs leading to the beach down there and he said we cannot be there to see the sunset. Wish i remember the name of the hotel (something that sounds like “agora”) .. On our last day though,  we set up appt in advance to be picked up by a porter for our early morning ferry transfer to Athens, but there was lil bit of confusion. The lady from the office helped solved the problem by finding a replacement porter asap as our driver was already waiting. Just a little problem that was solved but I ill still give this hotel 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
