We spent 5 wonderful days at Faros, Sifnos, staying at the lovely Aperanto studio apartments overlooking the beautiful blue waters of Greece. Dimitris, the host, was a lovely gentleman who was very welcoming and helpful. The studios are designed for effortless holiday living, 20 metres to the beach to one side, 20 metres to restaurants on the other side. My only suggestion for an improvement is the beds were extremely hard, which may suit many, but just a little hard for my ageing hips.

I went to Faros last June and was surprised how little changed since my last visit during my childhood 35 years ago. This is one of the few spots that haven’t succumbed to the runaway development on the more touristic islands.

Arriving without a booking with our private car, we had time to look around and were attracted to Aperanto due to its location and decoration, which are hard to beat. We picked the room to the left on the top floor, offering complete privacy and an amazing view of the Chrisopigi Church from our balcony. The room and bathroom weren’t huge (normal in Greece) but spotlessly clean. The caretaker Maria was absolutely charming (Filakia!!!).

The walk in rate was a lot more reasonable than the official room price in low season (June 2016), so it certainly doesn’t hurt to ask!

This is a typical greek guesthouse. Rooms are basic but kept spotlessly clean. There is ac, waterheater for tea/coffe. Waterpressure in the shower is quite ok. Befs a bit on the hard side. The view is to die for! Dimitri and Maria are both very kind and take good care of you. Wifi a bit iffy. Location can't be beat, 1 min walk in each direction and you're on the beach. And there is 5 restaurants within 150 m. 

Very nice place. One minute walk to the beach on your right and one minute walk to the village with nice restaurants and mini-market. The owners are very friendly and helpfull. Rooms are not big but each room has its own small terrace with table and chairs.

Great place very close to both town and beach

We booked the Aperanto online, and were impressed with what seemed great location, clean, close to beach. On arrival, we found it was very basic but with minimal facilities. The chair on the balcony was broken, could have hurt myself. There was no tea coffee facilities. We booked for five nights but moved to another accommodation  after two. It was quiet, but then Faros which is out of the way isn't known for noise.

Photos online can be deceiving

Be very careful to the fact that the pictures are executed with sufficient skill, so you can easily be misled with regard to the quality of the services you will be offered! For example: The bathroom, which does not appear in any picture, had a maximum of 2 square meters, the shower was directly on the floor, the sink I think was taken from the train so small was! The terrace that was promised to us was actually accessible to anyone because it  was a common floor space. The equipment in the kitchenette was crammed all under the sink,  I did not have a TV in the room ... and the list can continue! We only stayed for two days because we were forced to pay 7 months in advance, when we booked it! The host we met him when we left! On arrival time, we  was waiting by the woman who keep clean. And all this, for a room witch was priced at 110 Euro / day! Maybe 50 Euro / day is enought ! Be very careful where you are going !
