Hotel Astro

This is a very pleasant hotel to stay in, run by a Greek-German family, with delightful views at the back of the hotel of tiled rooftops and a pretty church. Spacious twin bedroom with adequate bathroom, air conditioning and balcony. Lovely big verandah downstairs to eat breakfast or just sit in the cool. Very convenient for the shops and square in Polykastro, as only one street away from the main street. If you want a kettle, just ask - doesn't seem to be a standard provision in Greek hotel rooms. 

Hello.I have found that hotel on my way from Eastern to Western Greece,travelling close to Katerini Lake before,and I was really estonished with the standard and good value for money for a single night there.Nice and friendly Manager speaking fluent English (not easy to find in Greece...),perfect, clean and tidy standard with comfortable bed deserving 4stars.In addition sunny balcony in the morning,maybe room a bit small,but equipped with AC,close to the center of the town and any local facilities.I would recommend it to anyone,when passing nearby.Regards.Krzysztof

Perfect stay in Greece

Comfortable and convenient 

I stayed for a bit over two weeks as a volunteer at a near by refugee camp. We were several volunteers at the same hotel. The hotel is run på a family where you can meet three generations. The first owner, grandpa who is always happy, dont speak english, but shares willingly of a bit unproper wet kisses to the girls. The couple who runs the hotel today, where he is straight forward and she is a bit harder to understand with some moodswings. And we have their son. A cool guy in his 20s.

There were not any breakfast there and we were asked to go to a place around the corner. There is a bar/livingroom in the first floor we could use. The family used it as their livingroom in a way. That wasnt a big problem. We were allowed to use it for our christmas celebration but they dont like it if there is guest there who doesnt live in the hotel. We also got a no on another request to use it later. They arnt all that clear on what they really mean always which can be a hard to translate. I lived there around christmas and new years and the owners had a lot of parties there themself which was very loud and it was hard to get any sleep. I suggest a room on the top floor. 

The rooms were very cold. The beds was low so we got the chill from the floor and the heat from the AC which felt like sleeping infront of an open fridge door. The hot water in the shower was a bit on and off. Some times we had hot water if we let it flow for 8-10 min. The AC system wasnt working in several rooms. In my room it worked the first week but not the second. We had a little fall out with the owners wife who left us some notes about us not remembering to turn it off when we were not there. Had a fridge in my room but it didnt work. It was actually warmer in the fridge than in the room so nice place to keep things you want warm. Like my gloves and socks etc.

It was fairly clean. It wasnt changed on the bed very often but my bed was made every other day. They supplied towels. Other than that i had a balcony that probably will be nice in the summertime. There was a cock outside somewhere that woke us up around 5ish. 

All in all it was a very personal and cosy place. Even tough at times really cold, could have been more aggressive cleaning, and maybe less parties all night i had a good time there and recomend it. The price was absolutely worth it.

Family hotel with charm

I stayed in Astro for 12 days and kept my reservation, despite all its inconveniences because of the location: two blocks away from the main street
The room was extremely noisy (water pipes...) and not very clean, particularly the bathroom. They do not clean it every day, unless you insist.
The varanda is nice and the owners are kind.
Wifi is weak.
Breakfast is not included, but you can always go to Zeno or others in the main street.
They offer a discount if you do not get the receipt... and no credit cards accepted!

Ok for its location

Extremely disappointing for the price. The only good thing I can say is that it was relatively clean. The WiFi didn't work, the shampoo/soap bottles in the bathroom were half empty (used), which to me is unacceptable - better to have no shampoo bottles in there at all than leave used ones; the air was way too stuffy in the room, etc... The worst part though was the noise! We were woken up by roosters at dawn, followed by the noise in the hotel - doors slamming, the maid (I assume) yelling something in the hall, and then the church bells (the church is right next to the hotel) + the service inside (you could hear the priests singing as though they were next to you). We were travelling and needed to get some rest for the night, and we left more tired than when we got there. All in all, wouldn't recommend it to anyone, just a terrible experience.

An overnight stay

Astro Hotel is really centrally placed, an easy walk to the main square and shops. The rooms are fairly basic but with all amenities you need, Wifi OK. Somewhat old-fashioned, but wouldn't expect more in a small town such as this.
