Pension Balos

First time in Samos and Balos Beach, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect until we started seeing the bays from the top of the mountain and reached the beach and the lodge. This is paradise, and the family who owns the pension is just the nicest hosts: Daphne, Penelope and Kyriakos! This modest lodge is literally right at the beach (you can just walk out in your swimsuits). For those who are into simplicity and nature you will love this place surrounded with trees. The cats are also friendly and playful :) The rooms include are very clean and include a mini fridge and an A/C. There is a shared kitchen if you are into fixing your own meal (we did fix some snacks and greek salad with the ingredients we bought from the market in the next village). And yes, the facilities are really clean! The water is crystal clear and so refreshing that you cannot stop jumping in it (there is a small pier 20m away and it’s so much fun to jump and swim off of). You will also find people casually fishing at the pier in the early morning and afternoon, friendly chats are part of the deal if you’re into fishing. There are not many options in terms of restaurants, but the food at the Pension Balos is probably what just you’re looking for if you like greek/Mediterranean food. Try their Imam Bayildi (a stuffed eggplant dish), Kyriakos (the father of the family) makes it really well (oh yeah he is the chef at the lodge!) We will not forget the sound of the waves, the wind and the crickets, and the tranquility this place offers. Thank you Daphne, Penelope and Kyriakos! We will be back :)
