15 reviewsWe spent 6 wonderful days at Mammis Apartments in May. We had corresponded with Yannis prior to our arrival, so his brother kindly picked us up at the ferry. The apartments are set up on a small hill, overlooking the harbour at Pali. We chose to stay in Pali over Mandraki, to avoid all the hustle and bustle of the day trippers, who come over from Kos each day. The apartment had everything we needed. A small, well equipped kitchen, with a hob and fridge. A comfortable bed, and a lovely seating area outside, with a shade to protect from the sun. There is a wifi connection, although a little slow. Pali has everything you need for your stay. A bakery where we went every morning for our fresh bread and a choice of delicious pies and pastries. Numerous restaurants along the harbour, and a little grocery shop. There is even a launderette to service the many charter yachts which moor up. The only thing we struggled with was fresh fruit and veg. We ended up purchasing this on a trip into Mandraki. I should also mention there is a free water refill machine in Pali, and also in Mandraki. We hate having to buy bottled water, adding to the plastic mountain. You just take your bottles and fill them as needed, great to see these machines appearing on more of the islands. During our stay we used bicycles to cycle to Mandraki and along the coast towards Pachia Ammos beach. Also we hired a motorbike for 2 days. There are 4/5 different companies in Pali which hire bicycles (electric and old style) motorbikes and cars. We chose to use Manos K. We found Maria at the shop extremely helpful, giving us lots of helpful advice for out trips around the island. Most people visit Nisyros to explore the volcanic crater. Having the motorbike we arrived before the day trip coaches. We had the whole crater to ourselves. The rest of the day we explored many of the churches and monasteries around the island. One of the highlights was visiting the little town of Nikia. Take the steps up to Prophet Elias church for an amazing view over the town and the caldera. Take time strolling through the quiet streets or sit and have a snack in the square. On our return to Mammis we would often find Yannis working in the garden. The garden is beautiful, as you will see from everyones photos. A mixture of flowers and fruit trees. Here we were introduced to mousmoula, a plum type fruit growing on a tree outside our room. Yannis told us to help our selves to the fruit, so that is exactly what we did. It was nice to chat and find out about life on a small island. We would certainly recommend staying at Mammis. If you are looking for somewhere relaxing to stay, but still close to amenities then this is the place for you.
