Very friendly and hospitable staff. Lovely views.  Great hot tub. Nice having your own kitchen area. Spacious bedroom. Dark bathroom that needed more lighting. Parking and approach to the property was challenging.

A truly wonderful stay, the staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The food and drink were excellent and good value too. Amazing views. Would highly recommend and we'll definitely be back!

We are always looking at trying hotels that are a special and offer that something extra. The luxury lies not necessarily in the amount of stars but in the details, the quality that runs through everything - the interior, the style, the craftsmanship of the furniture, the amenities, the food  and overall atmosphere.  such a luxurious place is Monastery Estate. 
The concept is clear - a mountain retreat where you come for deep relaxation, enjoy the serenity of the mountains but still close to the beach, which in itself is laidback with almost transcendental atmosphere.
Everything is kept in natural earth colours - beige, brown, grey and black. All furniture is made of good quality wood ( olive wood?) and beautifully crafted. The rooms are minimalistic yet luxurious with a little private pool / patio overlooking the mountains. 
The bed is dreamy ( medium / soft), the coffee is nespresso and even the small cups are true to the concept - heavy earthtoned ceramic. 

The retreat offers use of a private sauna, there is an outdoor restaurant serving homemade and locally produced food.

The hospitality of the staff is nothing short of the overall quality and is very personal. Thank you Georgia and Georgia. 

Monastery Estate is a true gem for travellers who seek something away from the main tourist areas, who appreciate tranquility and minimalistic luxury in a beautiful setting.

Monastery estate retreat is such a treat! A hidden gem in the mountains, near marvellous gorges and just 4km from the village of Sougia. The hotel is surrounded by nature in a traditional corner of Crete. The team is incredibly nice, helpful, professional. The rooms are beautiful and confortable and breakfasts are delicious. The team gives fabulous tips. We spent a wonderful time at Monastery Estate.

A wonderful place to spend a relaxing vacation in an idyllic setting in the middle of the Kretan countryside. This stay was accompanied by lovely staff and especially Georgia, who made this vacation just perfect. All the staff were very caring and very friendly. The breakfast brought to the room every morning was perfectly prepared. The hotel is a real haven of peace among the olive trees. A real back to the source feeling. It is true that the road to get there is long and winding but it is just worth the detour. The village of Sougia which is 4km away is simple but so easy and authentic with friendly people. In the area, there are many beautiful hikes in several gorges.

If you’re visiting this beautiful boutique hotel then prepare yourself to be truly stunned by location and hospitality. 

Aside from the obvious incredible architecture, exceptional food and idyllic surroundings, Monastery offers some of the very best customer service We’ve ever experienced. 

From Evie’s early morning (welcome following a late night drive through the mountains), offering a warm smile and Cold beer to welcome us to Crete. 

To the wonderful way in which Meg greeted us every breakfast and dinner, spoke passionately about the menu, and always took the time to chat with us about our our day and plans ahead!

Filippa was exceptional on reception, helping us arrange the most Incredible day out exploring the breathtaking Cretan shores and beaches by boat. 

All of these being led by Georgias incredible management, warm and engaging; helping me and my partner not only make the most out of Sougia, but even plan the rest of our trip.

It was a real treat to find this place, and a real honour to get to know the wonderful staff that they employ!

Very friendly and caring staff, excellent service, a lot of privacy with a private pool and luxurious treatment. You hardly see other guests and it feels like being alone in the middle of nowhere. Perfect if you want to relax and enjoy quality time as a couple.

We stayed at Monastery Estate as part of our honeymoon in June 2019. I had originally booked a year in advance (I'd heard it was amazing!) so was surprised when we arrived to see that they had extended and built a beautiful new retreat. 

We had booked a room in the farmhouse which was beautiful- spacious, rustic yet very clean and with lots of additional amenities. The bed was huge and the most comfortable we stayed in during our time in Crete.

After our first night we went to breakfast the next morning and were offered a complimentary upgrade to one of the new rooms. We were thrilled that we were able to experience both sides of the estate and truly couldn't decide which room we liked more. The farmhouse has such lovely character to it whereas the retreat is a lot more minimalist, with amazing views and the added bonus of your own pool.

Our favourite part of the trip was the outstanding hospitality we received from Ioanna and Sophia who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Breakfast is a lovely addition which we highly recommend too.

Monastery estate is very rural, so a car is essential. It's perfectly located for exploring southern Crete. Definitely for those who prefer a more secluded getaway- though saying that you are only ten minutes from the restaurants of Sougia. The taverna up the road also deserves a special mention- such fresh food at great prices (careful of the homemade wine though if you aren't used to strong alcohol!!)

All in all, a perfect stay- thank you for your wonderful hospitality!

Tranquility, Minimalistic Luxury in a breathtaking setting

A place of incomparable peace and tranquility

Idyllic

I stayed 2 nights at the Estate Retreat followed by 2 nights at the guest house.The guest house has a beautiful location just as the hotel nearby.However, few things need improvement:1) Shower had no doors. The water would leak all over while showering and turn the bathroom in a true swimming pool.2) Place is kind of (too) rustic for my taste. Not everyone would like it I guess.3) Not even bottles of water were provided in the fridge.4) A/C was a bit tired.However all these negative things were neutered by the nice and welcoming team which made my stay a good stay.If I have to come again, I'd rather stay at the Estate Retreat instead of the guest house.

Perfect Honeymoon Stay

Don´t get confused...There are the Guesthouses and the mountain retreat, belonging to the same place.
The guesthouses are more rural, kind of converted farmhouse, and might need some more maintainance in some spots. However, nice located and spacious.
We changed to the new built, modern Mountain retreat after two nights, which is lett spacious, but nice. The management was very helpful with tips, ordering taxis for us, maps etc. Thanks a lot, this is what makes a great stay!
There is a very good taverna 5 min walk, and you can easiliy acces lots of hiking tracks direktly from the hotel. Furthermore, is is just a short drive to Sougia with lots of restaurants and a nice (but stony) beach whichwas (Start of June) not crowded.

Outstanding management

Amazing property with spectacular mountain views and easy access to the beautiful and relaxed town and beaches of Sougia.The owner and staff are extremely warm and friendly, with exceptional quality food.We stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary and would strongly recommend it for a romantic stay or as a great locationfor walking or a relaxing at The local beaches and taverners.We wish we could have stayed longer and would love to return one day!

The Monastery Estate is a beautifully restored family house in the tiny village of Moni, not far from Sougia and the sea. It's an incredibly peaceful, intimate place with comfortable, quirky, stylish rooms and large patios. The view over to the White Mountains is breathtaking and there is great hiking nearby. We were extremely well looked after by Katerina and Marianne - nothing was too much trouble and they were very helpful with local suggestions. Highly recommended!
