For the price of a small hotel room elsewhere, three of us shared this two bedroom, two bath apartment with a comfortable living room and kitchen for three days. Air-conditioned when we needed it and with two television sets, the apartment has fabulous views over Mandraki Bay. It is reached by water-bus that runs every 30 minutes or by water taxi, but a beautiful coastal path can also be walked into Hydra's charming port town. No cars or motorized vehicles are allowed on the island, but donkeys are available for land transportation and lend local color to the town with its lively shops and cafes.. Hydra is only a short ferry ride from Athens and offers a wonderful place to enjoy Greek sunshine and azure water after touring the city. The Villa Mandraki's owner Spiros, also has a very nice shop in town and met us at the port on arrival, was instantly available by phone for help if needed. One caveat: the Villa is reached only by a steep flight of high stairs and would not be suitable for anyone unable to manage the stairway.
