Pension Erofili

I cannot speak highly enough of Pension Erofili and I have stayed many times. We are always warmly welcomed and in fact it feels a little like returning home. The rooms are quiet, immaculately clean and the beds very comfortable. It is also well located in a quiet area but just a short walk from the port. I have recommended Erofili to friends who also agree with me and I can’t wait to return!

We found this hotel to be very reasonably priced, clean, comfortable and friendly. It is located on a quiet street within easy walking distance of the port. I would definitively recommend this hotel to any budget conscious traveler. We truly enjoyed our stay on this absolutely lovely island and at this hotel. If I ever get the chance to return to Hydra, l wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

This was my second time in Pension Erofili. The first time I stayed for two nights, 7-8 years ago, in October, when I went for friend’s wedding. I loved the place then and decided to eventually come back for a proper holiday which I finally managed to do this year. This time I stayed with my 15 years son for 10 days. If I decide again to go to Hydra (which I will probably do in 4-5 years), pension Erofili would have been my first choice. A lot of people wrote about breakfast, nice owners good service hence I will not spend any time writing about this but will take a different angle. 
In order to understand why Pension Erofili is such a great place to stay while on Hydra it is necessary to understand concept of holiday that Hydra offers.  Hydra has a pronounced flavour of a genuinely traditional Mediterranean town. Many tourists do not understand that this is increasingly becoming a rare feature due to a brutal industrialisation and commercialisation of Mediterranean holidays.  Many once upon time great Mediterranean towns became a Disneylandised version of its previous self… It would be easy to assume that Hydra’s authenticity is still preserved only because tow is lagging in terms of catching up with the Mediterranean holiday craze. However, the opposite is rather true. Hydra is more ahead, more sophisticated, was longer exposed to tourism than many new upcoming places and is therefore much smarter in terms of the town long term tourism strategy. The town does not want mass tourism concept, it deliberately provides a more downbeat image of the traditional Mediterranean small-town experience which in a longer run is a much stronger concept than the usual crap seen in many other Mediterranean tourist trap destinations. This is exactly an area where symbiosis of hydra town and Pension Erofili works perfectly well. Hydra is a genuine traditional town and Pension Erofili is a genuin authentic traditional Mediterranean house with a genuinely authentic Mediterranean house yard. So, in a way staying in Hydra and staying in Erofili completes circle at least for me. Such a nice environment is important for me and kicks off holiday in a great way.

We stayed in the apartment on the top floor for seven nights with a lovely big balcony, perfect for drying our washing etc. We had a separate kitchen as well as a large bedroom and living area and a “quaint” bathroom. The wifi was strong and the air conditioning more than adequate. We loved the home made breakfasts of cheese pies, sweet pastries etc ( thank you Irene for making our favourites on our last days) and all staff were so friendly and welcoming. The central position was also a plus and while taking a shower was a bit of a challenge ( and it was similar in the more expensive Bratsera where we stayed previously)it  did not detract from our enjoyment. A very popular restaurant was quite close and occasionally revellers could be heard as they wended their way home. We were sad to leave and will certainly return. 

I just spent a week on Hydra (my first visit) and stayed at Pension Erofili. I highly recommend it. It is a beautiful pension with a beautiful garden. The room was perfect and very clean. The owner and staff are amazing. They answered all my questions and made fantastic suggestions as to what to see and do. And when I had a health problem with my eye, they helped me get immediate medical attention. The location is perfect. Just a 1 minute walk from the center of town. I will stay there the next time I visit Hydra! Irini, Alexandra, and Nana: thank you so much for everything!! Efharisto polee!!

We had a great 2 night stay. The bed was really comfortable, the water was hot and the room was quiet and clean with good A/C. An amazing central location, close to the harbour and loads of nice restaurants nearby. Friendly staff too :)
They also provide beach towels, which is a nice touch.

I give this hotel a 3 star review because the location was outstanding. The hotel was ok, but our rooms were not as promised. We booked three rooms that were supposed to overlook a garden, although each had a window to the outside that faced a wall. The reservation also said breakfast was included, although it was not. There was no apology from the management, merely, “we don’t serve breakfast anymore.” Definitely a place where false advertising is acceptable. For me, I like to be able to trust that I will get what I pay for.
