First time to Sami what a lovely place, our stay was really relaxing and great fun we met some really friendly people and Makis is just full of life nothing is too much trouble for him. Hotel was more than adequate for our needs and I slept like a baby. Thank you Makis and hope to see you again.

Relaxing break

This was our 10th visit to the Athina and once again we were not disappointed. Makis makes everyone very welcome and cant do enough for his visitors. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had a very nice see view.

Another Great Visit

The hotel is only yards from the shingle beach the bay is comfortable to swim in. The hotel is in walking distance to the the town of Sami with lovely restaurants and bars. Also you are only yards away from the village square with a few restaurants close by.

Makis is a great host

We've just had 10 great days at the Athina Hotel. We always book a 3 star bed and breakfast as we know the standard in Greek Islands and it suits us perfectly. The housekeeping standard is first class - the rooms are cleaned beautifully each day with towels and sheets being changed very regularly.  Breakfast is plentiful and good quality. The rooms are a bit smaller than we usually have and so was the balcony but it more than served it's purpose, which was basically just somewhere to shower and sleep. The whole place has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere and has Makis at it's heart. Makis oozes friendliness and endless energy. He knows and greets everyone by name from the moment you arrive until the end of your holiday. We have no problem in recommending the Athina as a good place to stay. Thank you Makis.

Lovely 10 day break 

What a lovely reception arrived lunchtime and was greeted with a cold bottle of water and showen to our room. Room was basic and could of done with refurbishing. Wc was glued back together. View on balcony was not that good so never sat out, which was such a shame. Fridge, aircon, hairdryer and safe free to use.  The room was cleaned to a high standard every day and fresh towels.  As part of the package we were allowed to use the ionian emerald hotel facilities. Lovely pool and bar area with allocated sunbeds available on the beach. There is also spa facilities and a gym to use. It is a good 20min walk into Sami to the resturants and shops. However, there is s handful of local taverns in the village and patisserie shop. The host of the Athina Makis made you feel really welcome. Would recommend this hotel but would request a seaview next time. One of the best greek hotels we have being too.

We never return to a place as do many other places to see but would go back here time after time x

The hotel is set just 15 minutes walk from Sami in a village called Karavolmylos the walk to Sami is along the beach lovely  stroll back from Sami after a meal 

Fab holiday

First family holiday since 2019, and it lived up to expectations. The hotel was great. We had a basic but more than adequate room, on the ground floor away from the bar. Makis, the owner goes above and beyond and is keen to make your stay as comfortable as possible, he remembers everyone’s name, and nothing is too much trouble. Air-Con was free, which is unheard of normally in Greece. Breakfast was Greek, with plenty of options, and everything was fresh. The young lady who works the breakfast shift was lovely with our daughter too. It’s also great you have access to the Ionian Emerald hotel pool next door. My daughter loved having a late afternoon splash and swim everyday we were there. 

The Athina is located in Karavomylos, which is a quiet and pretty Greek village, with a thin strip of pebble beach. There is a great family run taverna just up the road which we visited on the last night, the Taverna by the lake is lovely too. My daughter loved watching the ducks and geese and giving them some left over bread. You have a good path along the shoreline which takes you into Sami in about 15/20mins. Sami has plenty of tourist shops, supermarkets, and taverna’s along the harbour-front. There are boat tours leaving the port of Sami for day trips to Ithaca, which makes for an enjoyable day. Also locally, you have some tourist attractions, such as Melissani cave which is in walking distance from the hotel. The Odysseus Zoo Land is worth a visit with young ones, my 3yo daughter loved it. Anti-Samos, is a 10min drive or so outside of Sami, which had ridiculously clear water (go to the end of the car-park when you get to the beach if you want the cheaper sun beds). The Athina is a great base for exploring further afield (if you have a hire car). We visited, Fiskardo, Assos, Myrtos Beach (just the viewpoint), on another day Argostoli and saw the turtles in the harbour, then Lassi, for a day on a different, sandy beach.

Great family trip to Kefalonia

Just back from this wonderful hotel and can’t wait to return, as my first ever solo trip I couldn’t have picked a more perfect place to stay. The owner Makis is an absolute gentleman  nothing was too much trouble. Every guest is treated like family. Loved every minute of my stay, will be back soon.

We booked 2 seaside view rooms at this hotel. The owner "Makis" who welcomes the customers is super friendly and helpful, very relax and easy person.  The hotel is super quite, clean and well maintained.  The rooms are spacious but the bathrooms are small. The beach is just 50mt walk from the hotel and they have sunbeds and umbrellas for the clients of Athina and Emerald hotel, as part of the service you can also use the swimming pool from Emeral hotel. The
