I have stayed at this hotel 3 times since October of 2022.  Spotless, quiet, central.  It has been run by the same family for 50 years.  It is now operated by a brother and sister who are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

They do not have parking, but there is a paid lot attended 24 hours per day within 2 minutes walk.... I have parked in hotel parking lots where the walk to the front desk was longer. An excellent laundry service about 3 minutes walk away where you drop your laundry by 9 and can pick it up at 2 for a very reasonable price.  Forget about using up an hour or two of your vacation time in a laundromat.

We have recommended the Rea to three different sets of friends -- two couples and a single woman -- and all have found it a great place to stay.

Spotless, Quiet, and Central

This woman of the hotel was cruel and inhospitable. I emailed her I was coming after 1 AM, because that’s what time the flight arrived. She got back to me late by email. Had she gotten back to me early, everything would have been resolved. 

She was asleep and disorganized when she came out. She refused to check me in. Then threatened to call the police on me. A horrible experience for your first encounter into Greece. God will show Sodom and Gomorrah more mercy than He shows this hotel owner.

Cruel and Inhospitable:  Worse than Sodom and Gomorrah!

Pros:
1) Location is good. The place is quite close to the beach. The City Centre and the Fort are all within walking distance.
2) The front desk staff speak excellent English
3) The WIFI is free and the speed and connectivity are good.
4) The room and bathrooms were very clean
5) There are several good restaurants within walking distance
6) Tariff is reasonable
7) The place is quite at night and sleep quality was good.
8) Air condition was available

Cons:
1) There is no parking nearby. There is a 24 hr car park at a 10 min walking distance.
2) The room and bathroom are small. 

Good option close to the city center

We stayed here for a week while in Heraklion. I found it simple, cosy and clean, with very helpful and supportive staff and comfortable beds.  It was really good value for money as the hotel is so well located- minutes from the sea, close to the city centre, with restaurants and shops just a stone's throw away. We did a lot of sightseeing in Crete and Rea Hotel was a great starting point- it was so easy to get to the bus station, the bus stops to Knossos and to the airport, and the port from here.

Cosy, comfortable and convenient budget hotel- great value for money

We stayed in for 4 nights, the hotel is clean and everything is nearby. Close to the airport, but the most important closer to the sea!Rich buffet breakfast and friendly staff! We will definately visit rea hotel again!

Comfortable and cosy hotel

My teenage daughter and I stayed at Rea three different times in May, as we went in and out of Heraklion frequently traveling around Crete. It's excellent value. No frills but very clean and they don't skimp. The staff are very friendly, considerate and helpful. The wifi is OK.  

Excellent value!

One block from the sea, historical museum and 3 nice restaurants, on a quiet street with a traditional Cretan shop for anything you need around the corner- it's pretty ideal. Walking distance to everywhere in the old city. Been here twice in 4 years and the staff is consistently outstanding. Huge comfy bed, nice bedside lighting, sparkling clean spacious bathroom, cute little private patio or balcony. Really like this place!

Great location, clean, comfy, superb staff

It was budget so don’t expect much more. It was fine. The cleaning lady was totally rude but the front desk lady more than made up for it! It is in kind of a dusty alley way but it is within just a few blocks of the main downtown type area so it is really close to the shops and such. But it’s very basic however it does include a very small continental breakfast.

It’s a budget hotel!

This is a quiet place, a bit away from the busy and noisy streets in Heraklion, but still within walking distance to all the sites. Friendly staff and very good breskfast. Rooms were comfortable and clean.

Quiet place

A small, simple hotel where I stayed in  2018 and 2019. It is 15 minutes by foot from bus station and ferries, two minutes from the waterfront.  The neighbourhood is a bit down at heels but in no way a problem and the hotel itself is clean, quiet, well managed.

I especially liked the staff -- a brother and sister, I believe -- who offer great advice about restaurants and sightseeing in Iraklio and around Crete including things you may not have thought of.  For example, when I asked about a day trip to Phaistos near the south coast, he persuaded me instead to go to Matala on the coast and make the day trip from there, then spend a day or two at the beach ("you can't sight see all the time!").  I had learned to trust his advice so took it, and stayed, not two or three days, but two and a half weeks.  You may not opt for Matala yourself but if you ask them for ideas, you will get willing, expert advice that could add a dimension to your time here.

Overall, my repeat visit speaks for itself.
